Hot Frosty is a 2024 Netflix Christmas romantic comedy about a widow whose magical scarf brings a snowman to life. Netflix reported 12.7 million views for the film in the week of November 18, 2024, but it ranked second—not first—on the global English Films List that week.
What is Hot Frosty about?
Kathy, played by Lacey Chabert, is a widow still grieving the loss of her husband. Two years after his death, she puts a magical scarf on a snowman. The snowman comes to life as Jack, played by Dustin Milligan, and his fresh, unfiltered experience of the world helps Kathy rediscover laughter and the possibility of romance. The story mixes bereavement and recovery with an intentionally fantastical Christmas premise.

Chabert described Kathy’s journey as “overcoming grief” and finding the fun in life again. Milligan characterized Jack’s perspective simply: “The whole world is brand-new to him.” Both comments appear in Netflix Tudum’s December 13, 2024 feature.

Jerry Ciccoritti directed Hot Frosty, written by Russell Hainline. Netflix announced the film and cast on May 14, 2024 in its production announcement.
