Three Home Improvement stars reunited for a photo in July 2026: Patricia Richardson posed with Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Taran Noah Smith. ABC News called it a mini-reunion—not a full-cast gathering or evidence of a reboot. The sitcom itself ran on ABC for eight seasons, from September 1991 to May 1999. Here’s who played the Taylor family and their neighbors, and what dated reports say about the cast’s paths afterward.
Who was in the Home Improvement cast?
The series centered on Tim Taylor, a home-improvement television host played by Tim Allen, and his wife, Jill, played by Patricia Richardson. Their sons were Brad (Zachery Ty Bryan), Randy (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) and Mark (Taran Noah Smith). Richard Karn played Tim’s Tool Time co-host, Al Borland; Debbe Dunning played Tool Time assistant Heidi; and Earl Hindman played the Taylors’ neighbor Wilson. Pamela Anderson also appeared as a Tool Time hostess.
Hallmark’s official cast roster lists the series’ principal roles. ABC News describes its run and the July 2026 photo in its report on the mini-reunion.
What happened to the cast after the sitcom?
The career snapshots below draw mainly on a Us Weekly retrospective updated January 6, 2025, alongside ABC News and Hallmark biographies. They are dated summaries, not a complete or live account of each person’s work or private life.

Tim Allen continued in television and film
Us Weekly’s January 2025 retrospective notes Allen’s later television work, including Last Man Standing and ABC’s Shifting Gears, as well as film work. Those credits illustrate a continuing career; they are not a complete filmography.
Patricia Richardson kept acting and worked in theater
Richardson’s post-sitcom credits noted by Us Weekly include Strong Medicine, The West Wing and Last Man Standing, along with stage work. The retrospective also reports that she served on the SAG-AFTRA board. Her July 2026 photo with Thomas and Smith is the most recent directly reported cast gathering covered here.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas stepped back from regular acting
After playing Randy, Thomas voiced young Simba in The Lion King. ABC News reports that he later focused on education and remained largely out of the spotlight, taking only a handful of roles. Us Weekly’s January 2025 retrospective lists a 2015 guest appearance on Last Man Standing as his last acting role and an episode he directed in 2016. These reports describe limited public work; they do not establish that he is retired.
Taran Noah Smith pursued work outside acting
Us Weekly reports that Smith did not want to continue acting after Home Improvement. Its retrospective describes later ventures beyond acting, including a vegan restaurant and catering company, as well as volunteer and project work. Those are reported career details, not confirmation of his current occupation.
Zachery Ty Bryan had later acting roles and legal-news coverage
Us Weekly’s January 2025 overview recounts later acting roles and legal-news coverage involving Bryan. The retrospective does not establish a definitive account of his current status, so those subjects should not be treated as a live update.
Richard Karn stayed active in entertainment and hosting
Hallmark’s biography describes Karn’s eight seasons as Al Borland and a career spanning television, film, theater and hosting. Its selected credits include Family Feud, Last Man Standing and PEN15. The Hallmark biography provides that career overview.

Debbe Dunning moved into hosting as well as acting
Us Weekly reports that Dunning took roles in comedies after playing Heidi and began hosting Debbe Dunning’s Dude Ranch Round-Up in 2017. That dated report does not establish the program’s current season or distribution status.
Earl Hindman died in 2003
Hindman, remembered by viewers as Wilson, died of lung cancer in 2003 at age 61, according to Us Weekly’s retrospective.

Pamela Anderson was one of Tool Time’s hostesses
Anderson appeared as a hostess on the fictional show-within-the-show, Tool Time. ABC News identifies her role and Us Weekly’s retrospective notes her subsequent acting career; she was a supporting performer rather than one of the Taylor family leads.

No full-cast reunion or reboot is established by the July 2026 photo. It shows Richardson, Thomas and Smith together, and ABC News described it as a mini-reunion. It is evidence of that three-person gathering, not an announcement about the series’ future.
