In Jade Jurewicz’s May 2024 PerthNow review, Hillarys Beach Club’s Japanese-fusion dishes drew comparisons to Nobu, but the unexpected standout was a traditional Sunday roast. The review awarded the venue 14/20; its food descriptions and prices reflect that visit, not a current menu guarantee.
What the review found on the menu
Jurewicz described Hillarys Beach Club as a large, family-friendly beachside venue with separate spaces and menus. She ate upstairs on the balcony and ordered by QR code, noting some uncertainty about which menu applied. That distinction matters when visiting: the venue now identifies The Heart and Bar Cicchetti as separate dining spaces.
Japanese-fusion dishes with Nobu echoes
The review covered mini kingfish tacos with wakame, wasabi mayonnaise and yuzu dressing at $12 each, salmon with crispy rice at $21, and blackened miso ora king salmon at $28. Jurewicz found the tacos’ filling sparse but their flavors zingy, said the salmon and crispy rice came close to her favorite Nobu version, and praised the miso salmon’s presentation and cooking. Those are her impressions of the dishes served in May 2024, not claims about what is available now.
The roast that stole the meal
The unexpected favorite was the $38 Sunday roast: black Angus fillet with braised red cabbage, roast potatoes and sweet potato, plus a Yorkshire pudding the reviewer described as nearly as large as her head. Her verdict was that Nobu still had her heart, but Hillarys had excellent riffs on iconic dishes and a roast hard to pass up. The review’s overall score was 14/20.

Is the Sunday roast available now?
The venue’s official Sunday Roast page lists roast black Angus fillet ($42), roast chicken ($40) and house-made nut roast ($36), with sides and desserts.
