Amanda takes control of the cockpit and lands the aircraft with Sam’s help communicating with the ground. After touchdown, Sam faces one last threat from Stuart.
Does flight KA29 land safely?
KA29 makes it to London rather than crashing or being shot down. The landing is rough, not routine, but the passengers survive and leave the aircraft. The authorities’ dilemma over whether to shoot the plane down ends when it lands.
Who lands the plane?
Amanda, revealed as one of the hijackers, takes control of the cockpit and is the person who lands KA29. Sam does not pilot the aircraft. Instead, he keeps Amanda engaged, helps her communicate with the ground and supports her through the landing.
That resolution is a deliberate choice rather than a hidden aviation skill for Sam. In a post-finale interview, the creators discussed why the expected hero moment—Sam landing the plane himself—was not the answer. His negotiation skills matter because he helps keep communication open and Amanda calm enough to bring the aircraft down. TV Insider’s post-finale explanation discusses that choice.

What happens to Sam and Stuart after landing?
The passengers’ escape does not end the danger for Sam. He goes back aboard to retrieve a gift he brought for Marsha, then encounters Stuart, who is still armed. Sam gets the loaded gun away from him. Stuart is taken into custody, and Sam survives.
The scene gives the finale one last burst of jeopardy after the passengers seem safe. Sam’s return is driven by his personal reason for retrieving the gift, and it puts him back in danger while the immediate threat aboard the plane remains unresolved.

What does the ending leave unresolved?
The first-season finale resolves the immediate crisis on KA29, but not the broader criminal conspiracy behind it. That distinction matters: the plane lands and the onboard threat is contained, while the larger story continues beyond this flight. Later-season developments should not be confused with the answer to what happens to KA29 in the season-one finale.

Apple describes KA29 as a seven-hour flight from Dubai to London and Sam Nelson as an accomplished corporate negotiator trying to save everyone aboard. That is the show’s premise, not a real-world measurement of the flight. See Apple TV’s official Hijack listing.
