That is not the same as a formal cancellation: no official cancellation announcement, release date, cast, or production schedule is established in the available reporting.
Is the Heroes reboot still happening?
There is no confirmed reboot moving forward at present. On July 8, 2026, ComicBook.com reported that Heroes: Eclipsed was no longer in active development, citing journalist Matt Webb Mitovich’s Inside Line report and a “well-placed source.” The Inside Line page is subscriber-only, so the status is best described as a report relayed by ComicBook.com—not an official statement from NBC, Universal, or a production company. What was Heroes: Eclipsed?
TVLine reported on April 10, 2024, that Heroes creator Tim Kring was developing a project titled Heroes: Eclipsed. The report described a story set years after the original series finale, following newly awakened “Evos”—people with extraordinary abilities—as they discover powers that could change their lives. TVLine attributed the news to reporting first published by Deadline. It was a development report, not a series order or announcement that the show would be made. TVLine’s 2024 report

The premise and title are the details reported at the time; the reporting does not establish that the project progressed to a script, casting, filming, or a network commitment.
Is Eclipsed the same as Heroes Reborn?
No. Heroes Reborn was a separate, completed 13-episode event series announced by NBC/Comcast in 2015. Its story began after a terrorist attack in Odessa, Texas, when people with extraordinary abilities were blamed and forced into hiding or flight. NBC’s announcement named returning characters including Noah Bennet, Hiro Nakamura, Matt Parkman, Mohinder Suresh, and the Haitian, and set the broadcast premiere for September 24, 2015. Eclipsed was described instead as a proposed story set years after the original finale, focused on newly awakened Evos. The available reports do not say it would directly continue Heroes Reborn, so the two projects should not be treated as one continuous new season.
Will the original Heroes cast return?
No cast has been announced for Heroes: Eclipsed. In January 2026, Hayden Panettiere, who played Claire Bennet, said she would favor a revival: “Absolutely.” She also said, “It’d be hard not to do it with the same cast.” Those comments express her enthusiasm, not confirmation that she was approached or attached to the proposed project. Why a development report is not a reboot announcement
Television projects can be discussed or developed without receiving a series order. The distinction matters here: the 2024 report named a project and its premise, while the 2026 update said it was no longer in active development. Neither report establishes that episodes were ordered or that production began.
Kring has previously described the scale of the original series as a storytelling challenge. In remarks quoted by TVLine, he recalled episode orders of 23 in the first season, 26 in the second, and 25 in the third, calling the workload “a mathematical difficulty, an uphill battle.” That is historical context about the original show, not information about the format or prospects of Eclipsed.
