The former Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles is now a privately owned residence, not a public Playboy venue. Daren Metropoulos bought it in 2016, and a 2025 report said its restoration was complete. What the home looks like inside today—and whether visitors can enter—has not been confirmed by the available sources.
Who owns the Playboy Mansion now?
Daren Metropoulos bought the Holmby Hills property in 2016. The sale announcement from Metropoulos & Co. listed the price as $100 million and described his intended use as a private residence. Metropoulos said, “I look forward to eventually rejoining the two estates and enjoying this beautiful property as my private residence for years to come.” Metropoulos & Co.’s 2016 announcement
That sale is the key distinction between the mansion’s familiar image and its status today: it is not established as a Playboy-owned property. Playboy the company continues to pursue media, licensing, subscriptions, and brand events, but those activities do not show that events take place at the privately owned house. What has changed at the house?
Restoration was reported complete in 2025
Marca USA reported on May 21, 2025, that renovation work had taken six years and was complete. That is a media report about the project, not an independently verified inspection of the home’s current condition. It does not establish the present appearance of particular rooms, furnishings, or grounds. Marca USA’s 2025 report

Restoration was allowed, while demolition was constrained
A 2018 agreement reported by the Los Angeles Times protected the main residence from demolition while allowing restoration. The owner had told officials he planned to restore the house and its façade. Preservation therefore does not mean that the interior was frozen exactly as it appeared during Hugh Hefner’s tenure; the agreement described protection from demolition alongside permission to restore. Can you visit the Playboy Mansion?
Public tours or ordinary visitor access were not confirmed in the sources reviewed. Playboy’s company filing discusses its business and planned consumer-facing events but does not identify the mansion as a visitor attraction. That is not proof that no private event or exceptional access has ever occurred; it means there is no verified public tour offering or visitor information to rely on here. The best-supported comparison is about use and status, not a room-by-room makeover. During Hugh Hefner’s tenure, the property became widely associated with Playboy and its social scene. After the 2016 sale, the buyer publicly described a private-residence purpose; restoration was later reported complete, with the residence protected from demolition under the 2018 agreement. The available reporting does not establish which rooms or furnishings remain, what has been changed, or whether the home is occupied in a particular way today.
