These reported stories are memorable snapshots—not a ranking or a measure of what Swifties generally do.
Going to the show without a ticket
At Sydney Olympic Park during the 2024 Eras Tour, ABC News reported that some ticketless fans gathered outside the venue hoping a last-minute chance to get in might appear. Others had spent months pursuing resale listings. For some, going to the precinct and sharing the atmosphere was an event in itself, even without guaranteed entry. ABC reported that four million Australians tried to get tickets in the initial sale; that figure refers to Australia and that sale, not worldwide demand.
The gathering was not one uniform scene: ABC’s accounts included glitter, sequins, bracelets, and a woman dancing in a formal gown during the performance. The report illustrates how the concert experience could spill beyond the stadium, rather than proving that everyone outside was ticketless or there for the same reason. ABC News’ Sydney report describes the fans’ efforts and the atmosphere around the venue.
Making bracelets by the dozens—and sometimes hundreds
Bracelet-making became a serious pre-show project for some fans. In an ABC News report from Australia, two fans traveling from Adelaide said they had each prepared more than 50 bracelets. One described reordering beads after online stockouts. Karen Cornish, owner of Need4Bead, told ABC that her shop sold around 20 to 30 Swift-related bracelet kits per month, compared with about two ordinary kits per month. Those are her shop’s reported sales, not a measure of national demand or a confirmed countrywide shortage.

Other reported collections were larger still. CNA profiled Zoe Yan, who said she had made more than 700 bracelets since the previous August and could make about 60 in a day. CNA noted that a bracelet might take under five minutes or more than 30 minutes depending on its design and the maker’s experience. For an Edinburgh concert, Kayleigh Gore told The Independent she had made about 120 bracelets over several months to exchange or give away, with friends helping carry them. These are individual stories, not typical totals for fans.
For a simple version, makers use beads, letter beads, and string; some add charms or more elaborate designs. The reported examples show why making just a few can turn into a long-running project. ABC’s report on bracelet-making and kit sales, CNA’s guide to why fans make and exchange them, and The Independent’s profile of Gore give the details.

Why Swifties exchange friendship bracelets
The practice is closely associated with the Eras Tour and the lyric “You’re on Your Own, Kid,” which fans connected to making and sharing bracelets. But bracelet-making and concert exchanges did not begin with Swift: CNA places the ritual in the longer history of friendship bracelets and concert kandi. The tour helped make the exchange especially visible among Swift’s fans without inventing it.
Bracelets can carry song titles, lyrics, or other fandom references. Making them may also be social: CNA describes fans crafting with friends or family, trading their work, and keeping bracelets as souvenirs. One maker began taking custom orders after sharing her creations online. The exchange is less about producing a perfect object than having something small and personal to give another concertgoer.

Turning the crowd into part of the performance
The fan culture around the tour extended beyond bracelets. Northeastern Global News’ December 2024 retrospective describes era-inspired outfits and fan livestreams for people unable to attend, alongside exchanges at shows. Associate professor of music Andrew Mall observed that the practice was spreading beyond the Swift fandom: “It’s spilling outside of Taylor Swift fandom.”
At the New Orleans stop in October 2024, a giant bracelet tribute appeared in the stadium. ABC News reported Swift’s response from fan video: “You’ve created traditions. You’ve created this mass movement of joy every time we play a show. And it makes me so proud, it really does.” The tribute is documented, but the available account does not establish who made or commissioned it. Northeastern’s retrospective on the Eras Tour describes the broader fan traditions, while ABC News’ New Orleans report covers Swift’s remarks.

The standout examples range from months spent pursuing tickets to preparing 120 or even 700 bracelets. They reveal how some fans turned anticipation, attendance, and exchange into elaborate rituals. They do not establish how common any of these behaviors were across Swift’s worldwide audience: the cited reports provide no representative survey or percentage of fans who made bracelets or gathered outside venues.
