The posts visible there include disputes about a niece swallowing an AirPod, a birthday dinner, a traffic-jam bathroom emergency, damaged computer hardware, household coffee expectations and roommate privacy. They are entertaining snapshots of disagreements, but their popularity does not verify the posters’ accounts or make the community’s verdict an adjudicated fact.
What are Reddit’s top AITA posts of the year?
“Top” here means posts surfaced by r/AmItheAsshole’s year-filtered top-post listing. The page can change as votes accrue, so its order is a moving snapshot rather than a fixed annual winners list. The examples below are among the stories visible in the listing; they are not guaranteed to remain near its top.
The stories span family, social, household and roommate conflicts. In one, a niece swallows an AirPod; others concern a birthday dinner disagreement, an urgent bathroom situation in traffic, damaged computer hardware, expectations around coffee at home, and privacy between roommates. These descriptions identify the reported situations, not independently established facts about what happened.
How to read the posts and their verdicts
Each AITA post presents one person’s account of an interpersonal conflict and asks readers to judge whether the poster was in the wrong. Commenters vote using a shared vocabulary, and the subreddit may display a final flair reflecting the community judgment. That judgment describes how participants assessed the account as presented; it does not establish that every detail is true or that the verdict would be the same with another person’s perspective.

- YTA means “You’re the Asshole.”
- YWBTA means “You Would Be the Asshole.”
- NTA means “Not the Asshole.”
- YWNBTA means “You Would Not Be the Asshole.”
- ESH means “Everyone Sucks Here.”
- NAH means “No Assholes Here.”
- INFO means commenters need more information to judge.
A verdict is most useful when read alongside the disagreement and any update: it is a crowd response to the post, not a finding of fact. AITA submissions are user-written anecdotes, and details attributable only to the original poster remain unverified.
Why the ranking is not a measure of truth or representativeness
Reddit promotes posts through user voting. A popular story therefore reflects reader engagement and the page’s ranking method, not proof of the events described or a representative sample of everyday conflicts. The distinction matters especially when a post has a dramatic premise or only one side of a disagreement.

A 2022 study by Areej Alhassan, Jinkai Zhang and Viktor Schlegel examined prediction of crowd moral judgments on AITA datasets. In the paper’s reported experimental setting, RoBERTa achieved 87% accuracy with a Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) of 0.76; Longformer, used with longer sequences, achieved 87% accuracy and an MCC of 0.77. Those results concern prediction of crowd judgments in those datasets. They do not show that an algorithm—or a Reddit vote—can determine whether an individual account is true.

The subreddit frames itself around civil discussion of interpersonal conflict. Its displayed rules also set limits involving violence, AI or shitposts, and certain relationship or reproductive-autonomy topics. Community rules can change, so readers should consult the live subreddit rules when participating rather than assume an old summary is current.
