Henry Cavill’s first-look images show him as Connor MacLeod in the new Highlander: wearing a long coat, with swept-down hair and a sword visible at his hip. Cavill shared the images on January 28, 2026. The reboot is directed by Chad Stahelski and reimagines the 1986 film; footage shown at CinemaCon in April offered a glimpse of its action and story.
What Cavill’s first-look images reveal
The two images present Cavill as Connor MacLeod in a weathered, battle-ready look: a long coat, hair swept down, and a blade at his hip. ComicBook.com reported that Cavill shared them on Facebook on January 28, 2026; Moviefone reported his Instagram post the following day. ComicBook.com’s January 28 report and Moviefone’s January 29 report describe the reveal.
Cavill’s caption, reproduced by GamesRadar+, called the moment “a special moment to be able to share” and said he would tell fans about the journey “when the time is right.” GamesRadar+ reproduced Cavill’s caption.
How the reboot relates to the 1986 film
This is a new version of the fantasy film Highlander (1986), whose Connor MacLeod was played by Christopher Lambert. The premise again centers on immortal warriors moving through time. In the CinemaCon footage, Connor describes the Gathering and a conflict in which only one immortal survives. TheWrap quoted the character saying, “My name is Connor MacLeod. I was born in 1518. And I am immortal.” That birth year is a detail of the fictional character as presented in the footage, not a real-world historical claim.

What the April 2026 CinemaCon footage added
In April, Amazon MGM and United Artists showed footage at CinemaCon that went beyond the January stills. TheWrap and Variety described swordplay, gun work, action sequences and a fight in a neon-lit rave. Variety characterized the action as having a “John Wick”-like quality. The reports said filming was still underway: they named Scotland and Hong Kong as locations, while Variety also reported Poland.

The April coverage described filming as ongoing. The reports cited here do not establish a later production wrap or confirm a release date, so neither should be treated as settled on the strength of these announcements. The January images establish Cavill’s on-screen look; the April footage reports add action and story details, but do not amount to a finished-film preview.
