Who does Henry Cavill play in Deadpool & Wolverine?
Cavill plays a variant of Wolverine in a brief cameo. The appearance is part of Deadpool’s encounters with alternate-universe characters, rather than an announcement that Cavill is taking over the role of Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film’s broader setup follows Wade Wilson as he is pulled into a fight to save his home world and must persuade a reluctant Wolverine to help. D23 described it as Marvel Studios’ first R-rated film in its July 24, 2024 film guide: D23’s Deadpool & Wolverine guide.
Why is Cavill’s Wolverine called the Cavillrine?
Director Shawn Levy said Reynolds came up with the character’s name. In a Variety interview published August 6, 2024, Levy said: “If we’re going to talk about him, we must call him by his actual credited name, the Cavillerine, which Ryan coined.” The interview also records Levy saying Cavill “said ‘yes’ right away.” Read Levy’s interview with Variety.

Levy described the cameo as playful and subversive, including because Cavill—known for playing DC’s Superman—appears here as a Marvel Wolverine variant. The name appears with two spellings in the sources: Levy’s Variety quote prints “Cavillerine,” while Hasbro’s official product listing uses “Cavillrine.”

Hasbro Pulse lists a licensed Marvel Legends Series figure named “The Cavillrine,” based on Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine.
