Heidi Klum’s Halloween costumes have ranged from recognizable characters to creatures, elaborate body transformations and collaborative spectacles. This photo-led selection traces standout looks from 2000 through her 2025 Medusa, with “best” used as an editorial judgment rather than an objective ranking.
How Klum’s Halloween looks evolved
Klum has described the planning as beginning with an idea: “A lot of planning goes into it, you know,” she told the Associated Press, “Because first, you have to have an idea.” She also said the next costume should be “Completely different” from the last. The years below show that range: makeup-led character work, full-body creature designs, pop-culture transformations and costumes built with other performers.
In a 2007 interview quoted by the Associated Press, Klum explained her preference for face makeup over a full mask: “I personally don’t like it when people hide behind those full masks. I prefer when people get a little bit creative and they play with their face, when they put a lot of makeup on,” adding, “I always love that the most on me, I really go scary on the face.”
Early characters and fantasy looks, 2000–2008
2000–2005: from leather to vampire
ELLE’s retrospective starts in 2000 with a black wig, spiked collar, knee-high boots, red lips and dramatic lashes. In 2001, Klum wore a silver sequined Lady Godiva look with a long blonde wig; ELLE credits designer Marc Bouwer. Her 2002 Betty Boop drew on the cartoon character’s red dress, heels, gloves and exaggerated makeup. In 2003, she became a golden alien, with a metallic headpiece and gold-colored teeth. 2006–2008: a fruit costume, a cat and Kali
For 2006, Klum wore an apple costume topped with a snake headdress; Seal appeared as Eve. In 2007 she was a gray cat, with a leotard, jeweled collar and lifelike whiskers. Her 2008 Kali costume used blue body paint, multiple arms and dangling heads, as reported by the Associated Press. Kali is a Hindu goddess, so the image is best understood as a costume portrayal of a religious figure, not simply a generic monster. Creatures and dramatic transformations, 2009–2019
2009–2012: crow, robot, ape and Cleopatra
Vogue describes Klum’s 2009 crow as a feathered outfit with a beak. In 2010, she wore a towering robot look; coverage labels it a robot or Transformer, so the broader description avoids implying a single precise construction. The 2011 images require care: Klum and Seal appeared as apes in one look, while Vogue also records a separate, gruesome skinless-body look staged on an autopsy table. They are distinct images and should not be captioned as one costume. In 2012, Klum became Cleopatra in a custom-made costume, according to ELLE; Good Morning America covered the fitting. 2013–2019: aging effects, color and prosthetics
Klum’s 2013 elderly-Heidi transformation used a gray wig, cane and pearls; Vogue notes wrinkles and pigmentation effects created with makeup artists. In 2014, she wore a rainbow-hued butterfly bodysuit with wings and body paint. The next years brought Jessica Rabbit (2015), a group of lookalikes as Klum clones (2016), and a Thriller-era Michael Jackson transformation (2017). For 2018, she became Fiona from Shrek with extensive prosthetics. Her 2019 alien-experiment look imagined a science experiment gone wrong, with both Vogue and the Associated Press describing the result as an alien experiment gone awry.
Group projects and larger-than-life concepts, 2020–2025
2020–2021: family costumes and a Halloween film
Vogue describes Klum dressing up with her family in 2020. Its 2021 entry is a Halloween photo and short film featuring staged death imagery across gravestones, not a conventional party-costume appearance. Keeping that distinction in captions makes the chronology more accurate.

2022: the worm
Klum’s full-body worm costume traded a recognizable character for an intentionally strange creature. “I just wanted to be something random,” she told the Associated Press, adding, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone being a rain worm before.” The outfit is a reminder that a memorable transformation does not need to be pretty, familiar or easy to move around in.
2023: peacock with Cirque du Soleil performers
For the peacock, Cirque du Soleil performers formed the tail feathers, making the group part of the costume’s shape and movement. Klum told Good Morning America: “I wanted to do a costume with a lot of people where a lot of people became one.” The concept turned a solo transformation into a collaborative spectacle.

2024: E.T. with Tom Kaulitz
Klum and Tom Kaulitz both dressed as E.T. Vogue reported that 30 FX artists spent a year crafting two versions of the look; that figure is Vogue’s account of this particular production. Klum told Vogue, “Most of my costumes aren’t comfortable to wear for hours,” and said she pushes through for the result. The detailed alien faces and body effects made this one of the clearest examples of costume as a full production rather than a simple outfit.
2025: Medusa
In her latest verified look in the sources cited here, Klum appeared as Medusa, with snakes in place of hair and a rattlesnake tail. ELLE and The Independent reported the 2025 reveal. What makes these costumes stand out in photos
The strongest looks differ along several visual dimensions rather than following a single formula:
- Physical transformation: the elderly-Heidi makeup, Fiona prosthetics and E.T. effects change Klum’s face and body, while the butterfly and Kali looks use body paint.
- Shape and scale: the towering robot, full-body worm and Medusa’s snake silhouette create striking outlines even before their details are visible.
- Character or original concept: Jessica Rabbit, Fiona and Michael Jackson are recognizable references; the worm and alien experiment lean into creature design.
- Solo or collaborative performance: the clones multiply Klum’s image, while the peacock uses Cirque du Soleil performers as part of its structure.
Because those approaches are so different, there is no objective ranking behind “best.” A reader may prefer the recognizable characters, the elaborate prosthetics or the costumes that turn a group into one image. The photographs also capture only the finished look; the credited image captions and event details matter when comparing one year with another.
