Spoilers for Heartstopper Season 3 and Heartstopper Forever. Nick and Charlie do not break up at the end of Season 3. They finish the season together, with Charlie’s confident summer performance and a tender moment afterward marking how far he has come. Nick’s university plans leave their future open, but the story has since continued and concluded in the 2026 film Heartstopper Forever.
What happens at the end of Season 3?
Nick makes it to Charlie’s summer performance after a university tour. Charlie plays with confidence, and afterward the boys share an intimate moment: Charlie asks Nick to take off his shirt, and the scene ends with them holding each other. The finale closes on closeness, not a breakup or a sudden change in their relationship.

The scene matters because Charlie chooses the moment from a place of growing comfort and trust. It is not framed as a milestone he owes Nick or as a deadline for the couple. Creator Alice Oseman and the cast describe their intimacy as something they approach at their own pace. What the finale means for Charlie’s recovery
Charlie’s increased body confidence is real progress, but the ending does not declare him cured or imply that future difficulties are over. His arc is about becoming more secure in himself and accepting support, not reaching a permanent finish line. The final scene connects his sense of safety with the trust he shares with Nick, while leaving room for continued growth.

Do Nick and Charlie break up in Season 3?
No. “Apart,” the title of the eighth episode, does not mean that the couple splits up. Nick and Charlie end the season together. The uncertainty ahead is about different educational paths and the possibility of distance, not a breakup in the finale.
Nick’s university decision is the next major question. The TV finale gives the immediate story a warm, emotionally satisfying close, while the prospect of a transition to university remains unresolved. That differs from the graphic novels’ additional scene, which points more directly toward Nick’s university choice and the possibility of a long-distance relationship. What happens with Tori and Michael?
Tori and Michael’s relationship is left undefined. Michael is ready to call Tori his girlfriend, but Tori is unsure, and the show does not force her uncertainty into a label. Oseman has pointed readers to Volume 5 of the graphic novels, where Tori tells Charlie she believes she is asexual; that context can help explain her feelings without deciding for her what her relationship should be. What happens to Nick and Charlie after Season 3?
Their screen story continues in Heartstopper Forever, the feature-film conclusion, which began streaming on Netflix on July 17, 2026, according to the Associated Press. The film puts the relationship under strain: Nick and Charlie break up for a time because each believes the other would be happier without them. They later reconcile at the beach where they had their first date.

In the epilogue, Nick is at the University of Leeds and Charlie visits him. They spend a weekend together and remain committed as they begin a new phase. Oseman has described the film’s story as testing how a loving relationship changes as the characters approach adulthood; the reunion suggests that caring for each other also means allowing both partners to receive support. No Season 4 is needed to finish the screen story: the conclusion arrived as the feature film Heartstopper Forever. In an interview published October 10, 2024, Oseman said she wanted to tell the story’s ending in TV form and was in discussions with Netflix and See-Saw Films, but there was no firm announcement at that time.
