Heartbreak High Season 2 brings back the students and staff of Hartley High and adds three major characters: Rowan Callaghan, Zoe Clarke, and PE teacher Timothy Voss. Here is who plays each character, how the new term’s central conflicts fit together, and—clearly marked below—what happens at the end.
Returning students: who plays the Hartley High cast?
The returning student ensemble includes the central friends, rivals, and classmates whose stories shape Term Two.
- Ayesha Madon as Amerie: an outspoken student whose season includes a run for school captain.
- Asher Yasbincek as Harper: Amerie’s estranged best friend and a Hartley High rebel.
- James Majoos as Darren: an outsider among the school’s cliques who openly expresses their queerness and sexuality.
- Chloé Hayden as Quinni: Darren’s neurodivergent best friend, who becomes a candidate in the school-captain race.
- Thomas Weatherall as Malakai: a star basketball player at Hartley High.
- Will McDonald as Ca$h: a member of the eshay group, whose story connects with Darren and Chook.
- Josh Heuston as Dusty: a student and Amerie’s former crush.
- Gemma Chua-Tran as Sasha: a confident student who also runs for school captain.
- Bryn Chapman Parish as Spider: a student drawn into Voss’s CUMLORDS group.
- Sherry-Lee Watson as Missy: Sasha’s ex and best friend.
- Brodie Townsend as Ant: a student whose storyline connects with Harper.
Returning staff and a link to the original series
- Chika Ikogwe as JoJo Obah (Miss Obah): the teacher who supervises the Sexual Literacy Tutorial classes, known as SLTs.
- Rachel House as Principal Woodsy: Hartley High’s principal.
- Tom Wilson as Chook: leader of the eshay group.
- Lara Cox as Anita Scheppers: Cox returns from the original 1990s Heartbreak High. In Season 2, Anita appears as a businesswoman at a school funding pitch day.
New characters in Season 2
Season 2 introduces three notable characters who bring new pressure and complications to Hartley High.
- Sam Rechner as Rowan Callaghan: a new student, country boy, and classic-cinema enthusiast with a dry wit. Netflix describes him as caught up in a love triangle.
- Kartanya Maynard as Zoe Clarke: a celibacy advocate associated with the Puriteens, who oppose the SLT classes.
- Angus Sampson as Timothy Voss (Mr. Voss): Hartley High’s PE teacher, who pushes against the SLTs and forms the CUMLORDS.
What is Season 2 about?
The season begins in Term Two at Hartley High, which Netflix describes as the district’s lowest-ranking school. The SLTs become a point of conflict: Zoe’s Puriteens oppose them, while Voss builds the CUMLORDS around his own opposition. Alongside those competing groups, a school-captain election and the mystery of an assailant drive the season’s plot. It opens with a school fire, then uses flashbacks to show how events escalated.
