Springsteen’s official announcement describes the 12-song album as a blend of honky tonk, rockabilly and uptempo country. The full collection was released June 27, 2025, as a nine-LP box, a seven-CD box and a digital release.
Where does “Repo Man” appear on Tracks II?
“Repo Man” belongs to Somewhere North of Nashville; it is not a track from a separately released Springsteen album. That 12-song record is one of seven previously unheard full-length albums gathered in Tracks II: The Lost Albums. Sony Music Japan’s seven-CD track listing places the song on disc four. The same listing includes it on Lost and Found: Selections From The Lost Albums, a separate highlights release.
What does “Repo Man” sound like?
In Springsteen’s May 14, 2025 announcement, he characterized Somewhere North of Nashville as shaped by honky tonk, rockabilly and uptempo country. The album was recorded with a full band, with Springsteen cutting material live in the studio. The announced session musicians included Danny Federici, Garry Tallent and Gary Mallaber, alongside pedal steel player Marty Rifkin and fiddle player Soozie Tyrell. Springsteen’s official announcement presents “Repo Man” as a preview of that album.
How the Nashville country sessions connect to The Ghost of Tom Joad
The country songs were written around the same time as the material for The Ghost of Tom Joad, and the recording sessions overlapped. Springsteen recalled, “What happened was I wrote all these country songs at the same time I wrote ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad.’” The connection is one of timing and concurrent work: the Nashville-oriented songs formed a distinct country project alongside the songwriting associated with The Ghost of Tom Joad.
