HBO Max launched in the UK on 26 March 2026, and is now available directly and through selected partners including Sky and NOW. UK entertainment plans start at £4.99 a month, but the cheapest tier has adverts and excludes certain films; TNT Sports costs extra.
The original “coming soon” framing dates from before launch: HBO Max arrived in the UK and Ireland on 26 March 2026. The service brings together HBO series, Warner Bros. films and television, Max Originals, DC programming and, in the UK, a separate TNT Sports subscription. Prices and plan details below are the UK figures listed on 18 August 2026; offers and terms through partners may differ.

Plan specifications and prices are from HBO Max’s UK plan information. The £4.99 entry price is not the whole story: Basic with Ads has a narrower film selection and the plan page does not list offline downloads for it. Standard with Ads is £1 more and adds downloads and the broader film offering, making it a useful budget comparison. Standard removes entertainment adverts, but remains Full HD with two streams. Premium is the listed option for 4K, Dolby Atmos where available, and four simultaneous viewers.
TNT Sports costs extra
TNT Sports is not included in any of the four entertainment-only prices above. HBO Max lists TNT Sports on its own at £30.99 a month, or as a bundle with entertainment:

*Saver prices are billed monthly but require a 12-month commitment. After the first year, the subscription continues at standard monthly billing. Cancelling does not erase payments due for the remainder of the commitment. TNT Sports as an HBO Max plan is UK-only and is not available in Ireland.
The sports plan covers TNT Sports 1–4 and permits two simultaneous sports streams. Its programming includes Premier League and other football, UEFA club competitions, the FA Cup, rugby, MotoGP, cycling and tennis. Sports streams can still include adverts, sponsorship and promotional content even if your entertainment plan is ad-free. Check the current plan terms before signing up, particularly if you are considering a Saver commitment.

What can you watch?
The UK catalogue draws on several Warner Bros. Discovery brands, rather than being just a collection of new HBO dramas. The launch announcements and UK service information highlighted titles including:
- HBO series and library: Succession, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, The Wire and other HBO programming.
- Warner Bros. films and television: titles including the Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings films, alongside Warner Bros. catalogue movies.
- Friends: the UK launch offering included the complete series, according to launch coverage. This describes UK availability, not worldwide exclusivity; streaming rights can change.
- Max Originals: The Pitt was part of the UK launch slate, with its second season announced for a weekly rollout at launch.
- DC Studios: Lanterns was identified as a forthcoming title, not something to assume was available on launch day.
These examples are not an exhaustive catalogue, and availability differs by country and can change over time. Warner Bros. Discovery’s UK launch announcement describes the programming announced for arrival.

Already have Sky or NOW?
Eligible Sky TV customers receive HBO Max Basic with Ads as part of qualifying packages, including Sky Ultimate TV and eligible Sky Q packages. That is access included with a paid package, not a free standalone HBO Max subscription. Sky says customers can upgrade and pay the difference for a higher HBO Max tier. Sky Atlantic also remains a route for some HBO programming, so the new service does not necessarily replace every Sky HBO destination.
Sky’s launch information also listed Sky Ultimate TV from £24 a month for new customers under terms stated to apply from 1 April 2026, with a 24-month minimum term and possible price changes. That is a broader bundle price, not an HBO Max price or a permanent offer for everyone.

Eligible existing NOW Entertainment customers receive HBO Max Basic with Ads at no additional cost through the combined membership. Sky listed the NOW Entertainment & HBO Max membership from £6.99 a month for new customers; NOW Entertainment on its own was listed from £4.99. NOW may suit viewers who also want Sky Originals and Exclusives. If you only want HBO Max, compare the direct price and tier features instead of assuming a bundle is cheaper.

Where can you subscribe?
You can subscribe directly through HBO Max UK. The service also lists Sky, NOW, Prime Video Channels in the UK and Roku as subscription routes; the Amazon Appstore and Samsung are among its other listed distribution or device routes. Consult the HBO Max UK getting-started information for service details.
A subscription route is not the same thing as device compatibility. Also, the company or platform that bills you can affect how you manage plan changes, upgrades and cancellation. If you subscribe through a partner, check that provider’s account and billing process rather than assuming every change is made in the HBO Max app.
Which plan makes sense?
- To try the service for the least: Basic with Ads is £4.99 a month, provided its film restriction and lack of listed downloads suit you.
- For a small step up in budget: Standard with Ads costs £5.99 and adds downloads and the broader film selection. On published features, that extra pound is worth comparing carefully against Basic.
- For ad-free entertainment: Standard is £9.99. It does not add 4K or more streams; it stays at Full HD and two simultaneous streams.
- For a 4K setup or more viewers: Premium is £14.99, with 4K UHD and Dolby Atmos where available, four streams and up to 100 downloads.
- For live sport: price TNT Sports separately or choose a bundle. Do not treat it as part of the £4.99 entertainment plan.
- If you already pay for Sky or NOW: first confirm whether your package includes Basic with Ads. If it does, compare the cost of upgrading against a separate direct subscription.
These are comparisons of listed price and features, not a claim that one plan has been independently tested as best. Direct HBO Max is the simplest route for viewers who want only this service; Sky or NOW may make more sense if you already pay for them or want their other channels and programmes too. Compare the full package, term and included tier, not just the phrase “included at no extra cost.”

For UK viewers, HBO Max is now a substantial addition to the streaming mix because it combines prominent HBO dramas, Warner Bros. films, Friends, Max Originals and an optional sports service. That does not establish that it will dominate the market. Whether it is worth paying for depends on which of those programmes you actually watch—and whether your existing Sky or NOW package already provides its basic tier.
HBO Max says plan changes may require you to be in the country where your subscription began, a detail worth checking if you travel and expect to change your plan abroad. See the official UK plan help page for current terms.
