HBO Max did not renew Duster for a second season. The 1970s crime drama, produced by J.J. Abrams, ended after its first season; Rotten Tomatoes lists that season at 92% on the Tomatometer, based on 39 critic reviews in the page snapshot consulted in 2026. The cancellation reports confirm the decision but do not establish why HBO Max made it.

Was Duster canceled, and is there a season 2?
Yes. HBO Max chose not to move forward with a second season, leaving the show with one season. TheWrap reported the cancellation shortly after the first-season finale and reported that the streamer expressed pride in the series and gratitude to its cast and crew. TVLine also reported that there would be no season 2 and covered co-creator LaToya Morgan’s reaction.
What does the 92% Rotten Tomatoes score mean?
Rotten Tomatoes’ season-one page listed a 92% Tomatometer score from 39 critic reviews in the snapshot consulted in 2026. That is a critics’ score, not an audience rating; both the percentage and review count can change as the page is updated. The listing’s critics consensus highlights Holloway’s performance and the series’ retro aesthetic.

The score and the cancellation describe different things: one reflects critic reviews, while the other is a programming decision. The available cancellation reporting does not establish HBO Max’s business rationale, and it does not provide authoritative viewership figures explaining the choice. A strong Tomatometer score alone does not show what factors determined renewal.
