Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, had moved into Forest Lodge by November 2025. Kensington Palace confirmed the family’s new residence to ABC News on November 3, correcting the old headline’s claim that the move was still three weeks away. The palace had announced a planned move later in 2025 in August but did not give an exact date.
When did William and Kate move into Forest Lodge?
The move was complete by November 2025. On November 3, ABC News reported that Kensington Palace had confirmed the family now resided at Forest Lodge. The Independent had reported the day before that the move was complete during the children’s school half-term and that the family had aimed to move by Bonfire Night. Those details describe contemporaneous reporting, not a palace-confirmed exact move date.

Earlier, on August 18, Kensington Palace had confirmed the family planned to move later in 2025, but no precise date was given. The lease began before the move: The Crown Estate’s evidence to Parliament says it commenced on July 5, 2025. A lease start date is not the date the family moved in.
What is Forest Lodge, and where is it?
Forest Lodge is a Grade II listed home within Windsor Great Park. ABC News describes the house as having eight bedrooms and identifies Adelaide Cottage, also on the Windsor Estate, as the Waleses’ former Windsor residence. The family had made Adelaide Cottage their full-time home in 2022, after living at Kensington Palace from 2017.

Vogue describes Forest Lodge as Georgian-style and dating to the 1750s. Those architectural and historical details come from secondary reporting; the Crown Estate’s parliamentary evidence establishes the property’s listed status and location, but does not give that construction history.
What are the lease terms?
The Crown Estate told Parliament that William and Catherine hold a 20-year, non-assignable Common Law Tenancy at open-market rent, commencing July 5, 2025. The evidence says standard landlord and tenant repairing obligations apply and that the property is leased for use as the couple’s primary private residence. The lease term does not make Forest Lodge a public building or establish a permanent royal residence.

Can visitors see Forest Lodge or visit Windsor Great Park?
Forest Lodge is a private residence; public access to parts of Windsor Great Park does not grant access to the house. Visit Windsor describes the park as covering 4,800 acres and says some areas are open to the public. Its visitor page lists free entry to public areas, parking charges, and year-round opening from 7 a.m. to dusk. Check that page before travelling because access arrangements and visitor details can change.
The Independent reported that an exclusion zone was established near Forest Lodge before the move and that access arrangements nearby changed. That was reporting about the period around the move, not current visitor guidance.
