How you hatch, care for, clean, or troubleshoot one depends on its exact product line. For the cited Hatchimals Surprise model, hatching happens once and the toy cannot go back in its egg; newer Hatchimals Alive and Bloomables products may work differently.
What is a Hatchimal?
Hatchimals is a Spin Master toy family built around interactive creatures and reveal experiences. The official Hatchimals product site lists current lines including Hatchimals Alive and Bloomables, while available guides for Hatchimals Surprise and Hatchimals Mystery describe older, specific models. Controls, play stages and battery requirements vary, so check the product name on its packaging or underside before following instructions or troubleshooting.
How do you hatch a Hatchimal?
Hatchimals Surprise
For the model covered by Spin Master’s Hatchimals Surprise instructions, rainbow eyes indicate that the toy is ready to hatch. Hold the egg with both hands and keep its top pointed away from your face while it hatches. The manual is explicit: “Hatchimals only hatch ONCE.” It says the toy cannot be put back in the egg.
Other Hatchimals lines
Do not assume that rainbow eyes, the same handling steps, or a one-time hatch rule apply to another product. Use that toy’s own instructions; the Surprise guide does not establish how current Hatchimals Alive or Bloomables products hatch.

What happens after it hatches?
The Hatchimals Mystery guide describes five stages: egg, hatching, baby, toddler and kid. It gives examples of nurturing the egg, caring for the baby, and later activities such as walking, talking, dancing or games. These are features described for that generation, not a checklist of what every Hatchimal can do. See Spin Master’s Hatchimals Mystery guide for model-specific directions.
Can you put a hatched Hatchimal back in its egg?
Not for the Hatchimals Surprise model covered by its manual: the hatch is one-time, and the toy cannot be returned to the egg. That answer should not be generalized to every Hatchimals product; check the instructions for the exact line and model.

How do you clean a Hatchimal?
For the Surprise toy, wipe it gently with a clean, damp cloth. Do not submerge it: water can damage its electronic assemblies. Spin Master’s separate cleaning FAQ also advises spot-cleaning fur with a damp cloth and not submerging the toy. Follow the product’s own care instructions if you have a different model.
What batteries does Hatchimals Surprise use?
The cited Surprise manual specifies different batteries for the two twins:

| Figure | Battery requirement in the Surprise guide |
|---|---|
| Twin A | 2 AA batteries |
| Twin B | 3 LR44 batteries |
These requirements apply to that model only. Check the toy’s battery compartment and manual before replacing batteries. The guide warns that swallowing a button or coin-cell battery can cause severe internal injury. Keep new and used batteries out of children’s reach; if one may have been swallowed, seek immediate medical attention.
Why isn’t my Hatchimal responding?
Start by identifying the product name and following its own manual: troubleshooting steps and battery arrangements are not uniform across the family. For the older Surprise twins, confirm that you are checking the battery type specified for the correct figure and consult the official instructions and FAQs. The available source material confirms that Spin Master maintains troubleshooting support, but does not establish a specific fix or hatch-time estimate for every model.

Which Hatchimals are available now?
Spin Master’s official Hatchimals site currently lists Hatchimals Alive products including Mystery Hatch and Rainbow Hatchery, and Bloomables by Hatchimals products including Flower Fest and Bloom Bash. The site links to Amazon, Target and Walmart, but a product-page listing does not guarantee current stock, price or availability at a particular retailer.
The overview names products but does not provide a complete side-by-side specification comparison. To decide between them, check the specific listing and instructions for the reveal mechanism, whether it is a collectible or playset, whether the reveal can be repeated, included figures and accessories, age guidance and batteries. Do not assume a current product recreates the original Surprise experience unless its listing says so.
