Has Willow been canceled? The clearest answer is that Disney+ was reported to have canceled the series after one season in March 2023, but creator Jon Kasdan said the decision was not necessarily a final end to the story. As of October 8, 2026, no second season or resumed production is confirmed.
What is the official word on Willow season 2?
There is no confirmed second season. Lucasfilm’s official interview with executive producer Ron Howard states that “nothing’s been confirmed” about a potential second season. Lucasfilm’s production catalogue lists Willow as a 2022 production, with no later season shown. The catalogue is corroborating context, not a cancellation announcement.

The cancellation wording comes from a dated trade report, rather than a later Lucasfilm renewal or cancellation notice. On March 15, 2023, TVLine reported that Disney+ had canceled the sequel series after one season. Two days later, Kasdan pushed back on treating that as a definitive “never.” Those statements describe different aspects of the status: the report said the series was canceled, while the creator left open the possibility of a future return.
Why did Jon Kasdan say it was not necessarily over?
In comments reported by TheWrap on March 17, 2023, Kasdan said the cast had been released from their options so they could pursue other work. He said filming would not resume in the next 12 months and that season two was not entering pre-production at that time: “Are we going into pre-production [on Season 2]? Not right now.”

Kasdan also said his team had written a hoped-for Volume II. That was a creative plan, not an order from Disney or Lucasfilm, and it did not mean the show was actively being made. His comments explain why he resisted calling the decision a final cancellation, but they do not amount to a renewal announcement. Read TheWrap’s report on Kasdan’s response for the full context.

The 2022 series continues the world of the 1988 film; it is not a remake. Lucasfilm describes Warwick Davis as Willow Ufgood, now a noted sorcerer who joins young heroes on a quest to protect Andowyne. Disney’s series overview explains the season’s central conflict: evil forces invade Queen Sorsha’s kingdom, Prince Airk is kidnapped, and Princess Kit sets out with companions to find him and seek Willow’s help.
Lucasfilm’s series page lists eight chapter guides and names Davis alongside Ellie Bamber, Ruby Cruz, Erin Kellyman, Tony Revolori, Amar Chadha-Patel, Dempsey Bryk, and Joanne Whalley.
