The sequel mixes returns from the 1996 film with celebrity appearances, pro golfers and new supporting characters. The key distinction: not every famous face is a quick cameo. Bad Bunny’s Oscar, for example, becomes Happy’s caddy, while Christopher McDonald’s Shooter McGavin and Julie Bowen’s Virginia Venit reprise major roles. Here’s who appears and where to look for the film’s most notable callbacks.
Who returns from the original Happy Gilmore?
Set nearly 30 years after the 1996 comedy, Happy Gilmore 2 brings back several central characters. Netflix Tudum’s cast guide identifies the returning roles:
- Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore: the former golf champion at the center of the sequel.
- Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin: Happy’s longtime rival, back with his signature mannerisms and lines.
- Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit: Happy’s wife, whose grave becomes the setting for a tribute to people from the original film.
- Ben Stiller as Hal L.: the nursing-home attendant, returning with a familiar catchphrase in a changed context.
- Dennis Dugan as Doug Thompson: the original film’s director appears as the character Happy reunites with during the sequel.
- Robert Smigel as the IRS character: he returns in a new role as a lawyer.
Other callbacks bring back characters through memory, props or jokes rather than a performer’s return. Chubbs Peterson, played in the original by Carl Weathers, is remembered through his advice and a reference to his wooden hand.
Who are the biggest celebrity cameos?
“Cameo” is used loosely for this cast: some appearances are brief, while others are supporting roles. Netflix’s cast guide provides a broader roster, and TIME’s July 25, 2025 cameo guide adds context for several appearances. Screen time varies; the list below is a selection, not a complete inventory.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Actors and comedy performers
- Bad Bunny as Oscar: Oscar starts as a busboy and becomes Happy’s caddy, making this a substantial supporting role rather than a fleeting celebrity appearance.
- Steve Buscemi: plays a neighbor.
- Travis Kelce: appears as a waiter.
- Jackie Sandler as Monica: plays a dance instructor.
- Ken Jennings: appears as host of Jeopardy!.
- Eric André, Benny Safdie, Margaret Qualley, Haley Joel Osment, Kevin Nealon, Rob Schneider and Marcello Hernandez: are among the other performers named in the cast and cameo guides.
Golfers and other athletes
Golfers appear in different settings, including the Tour Champions Dinner. Netflix’s cast guide names Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, Will Zalatoris, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino, among many others. John Daly appears as himself; Kelsey Plum and Andrew Watt appear as golf-course starters. The roster is deliberately broader than a short “top cameos” list, but the names do not imply equal screen time.
Musicians and media personalities
Alongside Bad Bunny, the cast guide lists Eminem, Post Malone, Kid Cudi and Cam’ron. Stephen A. Smith also appears. These appearances add to the film’s mix of musicians, sports figures and comedy performers rather than forming one long sequence of equivalent cameos.
