Australian comedian Hamish Blake said in a social-media update reported on 5 March 2024 that skin cancer had been removed from his forehead. He showed stitches and said the cancer was caught very early. The report did not identify the cancer type or publish pathology results, and it is not an update on his health today.
What happened to Hamish Blake’s forehead?
PerthNow reported on 5 March 2024 that Blake had shared an image showing stitches on his forehead after skin cancer surgery. The report gives no clinical account of the procedure. In his first post, as quoted by PerthNow, Blake joked: “Got a mini facelift! I love it!”
In a second post, Blake said everything was fine and that the cancer had been caught very early. The report does not name a subtype—such as melanoma, basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma—or provide pathology findings, so no more specific medical conclusion can be drawn from it. PerthNow’s report describes the update he shared in March 2024.
What did Blake say about skin checks?
Blake’s second post included this reminder, as quoted in PerthNow: “This is my reminder to anyone who needs it (ie, everyone) to get your skin checked every six months.” That is his personal public reminder, not a universal Australian screening schedule.

Cancer Council Australia advises people who are concerned about skin cancer, their risk, or a new or changing spot to seek advice from a medical practitioner and discuss their individual risk and whether medical checks or self-examination are appropriate. It encourages self-examination particularly for people at elevated risk, including people over 40, outdoor workers, and those with a personal or family history of skin cancer. The Council says population-based screening for melanoma and other skin cancers is not currently recommended because there is insufficient evidence that it reduces mortality.
