Halsey released “So Good” in June 2022. The song was produced by Tobias Karlsson and Max Martin, and its official video, directed by Alev Aydin, uses Samsung’s Freestyle portable projector to show home movies. Halsey said the song was inspired by a friend—not an ex with whom a relationship later worked out.
When did Halsey release “So Good”?
The dates depend on the listing: Apple Music’s U.S. catalog dates the one-track So Good – Single to June 9, 2022, while Universal Music Canada’s release announcement is dated June 10 and says Halsey released the single that day. These are a U.S. catalog date and a Canadian label announcement date, respectively.
Universal Music Canada described the song as “an honest look at the sometimes circuitous path love takes.” The original single is listed as an Alternative release on Capitol Records, with ℗ 2022 UMG Recordings, Inc. on Apple Music.
What is “So Good” about?
Halsey clarified that the song is not about an ex with whom things eventually worked out. In an English translation published by Universal Music Germany, Halsey said it was about “a friend who was always there for me, and for whom I realized my true feelings one day.” The translated post also playfully advises listeners to write to “this angel” instead of their exes.

The clarification gives the song’s circuitous-love description a specific context: its inspiration was a friendship in which Halsey came to recognize romantic feelings, rather than a reunion with a former partner.
Who made the song and video?
- Producers: Tobias Karlsson and Max Martin, credited by Universal Music Canada.
- Official video director: Alev Aydin, whom Universal Music Canada identifies as Halsey’s partner.
- Video collaboration: Samsung says Halsey and Aydin worked with the company to translate the song’s story into a visual film.
Why does the video feature a Samsung Freestyle projector?
Samsung’s Freestyle portable device appears as part of the video’s storytelling: it projects real home movies from Halsey and Aydin’s life together. Halsey said the film told the story of the song as intended and described using the Freestyle to show those memories. The projector is a production detail in the video, not something viewers need to listen to the single or watch the film.

Samsung Vice President of Home Entertainment Marketing Sarah Larsen said the company wanted to help tell the visual story after hearing the song. That comment describes Samsung’s role in the collaboration; it is separate from Halsey’s explanation of the song’s inspiration.
