Availability is US-specific, was checked August 13, 2026, and should be rechecked before viewing.
The package separates genuinely new 2026 releases from films that are newly available on Hulu. Netflix’s official pages cover The Last House and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, while Hulu’s August schedule confirms the X trilogy additions. The guide does not assume that every recommendation is Halloween-themed in its plot; the common thread is a current horror-friendly viewing use case.
Key takeaways
- The Last House is the clearest contained, high-concept Netflix film choice and began streaming on August 7, 2026, according to Netflix Tudum’s 2026 announcement.
- Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is the strongest new Netflix series pick for viewers who want supernatural wedding dread and episodic suspense.
- The Shards is a new Hulu/FX serial-killer mystery with a literary, psychological-thriller angle; it premiered on August 5, 2026.
- Hulu’s August 2026 schedule lists X, Pearl, and MaXXXine as August 3 additions, making the three films a natural marathon.
- This is a US watchlist checked on August 13, 2026; streaming rights, ratings, and episode availability can change before publication or viewing.
What counts as new in this Halloween streaming guide?
Twelve entries are 2026 releases or 2026 Hulu listings, while X, Pearl, and MaXXXine are older films newly listed as Hulu additions on August 3, 2026. The distinction matters: the three-film trilogy is new to Hulu for this snapshot, not newly produced in 2026.
Not every title has a Halloween-themed plot. The editorial fit is broader: these are current horror, thriller, mystery, horror-comedy, survival, and horror-adjacent choices that work for a Halloween night, a spooky-season watch, or a genre marathon. The list is US-specific and was researched on August 13, 2026. Recheck the title page or Hulu’s official August 2026 schedule immediately before publishing or watching.

What new horror movies and shows are on Netflix?
The two clearest new Netflix choices are The Last House for a contained film and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen for an episodic supernatural story. Netflix’s official pages list both titles, while Netflix Tudum provides the August 7, 2026 streaming date for The Last House.
The Last House: best contained, high-concept pick
The Last House is a PG-13 supernatural sci-fi thriller/horror film about a family mysteriously sealed inside its home. As resources dwindle, the family must survive both the force keeping them trapped and the pressure of confinement. The contained premise makes The Last House the most accessible Netflix choice in this list for a mixed-age group that still wants supernatural tension without an R rating.
According to Netflix Tudum’s June 15, 2026 release announcement, The Last House began streaming on August 7, 2026. Verify the live Netflix title page before publication because availability can change even when a release date has passed.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSomething Very Bad Is Going to Happen: best new Netflix series
Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is a TV-MA Netflix series built around a bride who believes something horrifying will happen at her wedding. The dread intensifies as the wedding approaches, making the show a natural choice for viewers who prefer supernatural suspense to a single-night creature feature.
The wedding setting gives Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen a strong Halloween-marathon hook without requiring the story itself to be about Halloween. The official Netflix title page is the appropriate place to recheck its current US availability and rating.
Which new 2026 Hulu titles fit different horror moods?
Hulu supplies the broadest cluster of verified 2026 genre choices in this package, ranging from a literary serial-killer mystery and paranormal recordings to franchise slashers, undead survival, horror-comedy, and monster investigation. The official Hulu horror catalog should be rechecked for current availability.

The Shards: a literary and psychological mystery
The Shards premiered on Hulu/FX on August 5, 2026. The TV-MA drama, crime, thriller, and mystery series follows privileged high-school seniors in 1980s Los Angeles as identity, obsession, and danger build beneath the surface. The Shards is the best fit here for viewers who want a serial-killer mystery with psychological and literary-horror crossover rather than a straightforward supernatural film.
Recommended Free Tools
The initial catalog check found one season and two available episodes, but episode counts are especially vulnerable to change. Check the official Hulu listing for The Shards before planning a full series marathon.
Undertone: paranormal horror told through recordings
Undertone is an R-rated 2026 Hulu horror title about a young paranormal podcaster who returns home to care for her mother and begins receiving eerie recordings. The podcast-centered premise makes Undertone the strongest found-audio or found-recording choice in the package. Viewers interested in audio evidence, haunted-home tension, and supernatural investigation should start here.
The official Hulu details page for Undertone supports the current title information; do not add a runtime or more specific plot details without a fresh verification pass.
Which new horror sequel is worth watching?
For a sequel-driven Halloween night, choose according to the kind of franchise experience you want: Ready or Not 2: Here I Come for a darkly comic nightmare game, Return to Silent Hill for foggy supernatural video-game atmosphere, or The Strangers: Chapter 3 for a masked-killer and home-invasion confrontation.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is an R-rated Hulu horror-thriller positioned as the next stage of the nightmarish game. The sequel is the most natural group-watch option of the three because its hook is built around escalating game-based danger.
- Return to Silent Hill is an R-rated Hulu horror-mystery and video-game adaptation. Choose it when atmosphere, franchise mythology, and supernatural fog matter more than a standalone premise.
- The Strangers: Chapter 3 is an R-rated Hulu horror-thriller about a final confrontation with the masked killers. It belongs on a home-invasion or slasher franchise night.
Hulu classifies these titles within its horror and thriller catalog. Franchise familiarity may improve the experience, but the supplied research does not establish how much prior viewing each sequel requires.
Which Hulu titles are best for killers, revenge, or survival?
Psycho Killer and We Bury the Dead cover two different survival-minded moods: revenge against a killer and an undead post-disaster search.

- We Bury the Dead is an R-rated horror-thriller set in a post-disaster world where the dead rise and hunt. A woman searching for her missing husband supplies the emotional through-line, while the undead threat makes the film the strongest zombie or survival-horror option here.
What should I watch for creature-feature or monster-investigation horror?
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is the restrained choice for mythology-driven supernatural creature horror, while Expedition X: Atomic Sharks is the choice for documentary-style investigation and monster spectacle.
- Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is listed by Hulu as an R-rated horror film. The available official catalog evidence does not establish a detailed synopsis, runtime, or exact Hulu arrival date, so the recommendation should remain limited to its supernatural creature-feature and mythology angle.
- Expedition X: Atomic Sharks is rated TV-14 and listed by Hulu under horror and survival. It suits viewers who prefer nonfiction-style scares, paranormal-investigation energy, or monster spectacle over a conventional narrative slasher.
Is Send Help a good horror movie for friends?
Send Help is Hulu’s 2026 comedy-and-horror entry and the lightest group-watch recommendation in this package. The available official catalog evidence does not supply enough plot detail for a fuller synopsis, so treat Send Help as a restrained horror-comedy suggestion rather than assuming a specific story, rating, runtime, or scare style.

How should you watch X, Pearl, and MaXXXine?
Watch the Hulu trilogy in this order: X, then Pearl, then MaXXXine. Hulu’s official August 2026 schedule lists all three films as August 3 additions, but the schedule does not establish how long each title will remain available.
- X is the starting point and the rural-slasher choice.
- Pearl follows with an isolated-character psychological-horror focus.
- MaXXXine closes the three-film run with a glamorously grimy slasher and industry-horror angle.
The trilogy is the clearest answer to the question of what to watch after X, Pearl, and MaXXXine: if all three are available in your Hulu catalog, use the listed order for a coherent marathon. The research confirms the August additions but does not provide a current catalog-duration guarantee, so confirm all three listings before starting.
What is the scariest new movie to watch tonight?
No source in this research establishes one objectively scariest title, and no critic scores, audience scores, runtimes, or firsthand scare tests were used. The most useful choice is therefore a mood match: pick The Last House for contained pressure, Undertone for paranormal recordings, The Strangers: Chapter 3 for home-invasion tension, or We Bury the Dead for undead survival.

How can you plan the streaming night?
Start by choosing whether the group wants a single film or a series, then match the rating and horror mode to the audience. A PG-13 pick such as The Last House is the least restrictive option in this package; most of the explicitly rated Hulu narrative films are R, while Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen is TV-MA and Expedition X: Atomic Sharks is TV-14.
If the room or screen setup makes a large group difficult, a portable projector for movie nights is optional equipment rather than a requirement. Check current specifications, compatibility, availability, and pricing before buying; the dossier does not support a particular model or product claim.

For viewers who want deeper genre coverage beyond Netflix and Hulu, Shudder’s dedicated horror streaming service describes its offering as horror, thriller, and suspense programming that is ad-free and uncut. Treat Shudder as an optional service for horror obsessives, not as one of the 15 availability-verified picks in this guide, and confirm current US availability and commercial terms separately.
What should you recheck before publication or viewing?
- Confirm that each title is still listed in the US Netflix or Hulu catalog.
- Confirm ratings, because ratings and platform metadata can change or may not be displayed consistently.
- Recheck The Shards episode availability; the initial catalog check showed one season and two episodes, but the episode count is not permanent evidence.
- Confirm that X, Pearl, and MaXXXine are still available before planning the trilogy marathon.
- Do not add The Whisper Man to this watch-now list for the August 13 research snapshot; Netflix scheduled it for August 28, 2026, after the research timestamp.
