The central idea was a free public setting inspired by a Hallmark movie town square, with optional paid tickets for additional activities.
What Hallmark announced for 2024
The inaugural event was designed to bring a storybook Christmas setting into Hallmark’s hometown. Its free public-facing area was to include a Christmas market with event-exclusive Hallmark merchandise, gifts from Hallmark artisans and seasonal merchants, festive food and themed drinks, ice skating, nightly tree lightings, card-sending and gift-wrap stations, a community mural, interactive light walks and photo opportunities. Hallmark’s 2024 announcement described these activities as part of an immersive holiday setting, rather than a single show or attraction.
Hallmark also offered paid VIP ticket packages for experiences beyond the public square. The announced additions included events and photo opportunities with Hallmark stars, artist workshops, elevated dining, breakfast with Santa, movie marathons and a new holiday movie premiere. These were distinct from entering the free public area.
How the event changed by the 2026 season
In its May 12, 2026 announcement, Hallmark described the event as entering its third holiday season in Kansas City, with programming on weekends from Thanksgiving to Christmas. The lineup included returning activities such as Stars on Stage, Saturday Showcases, Create and Learn workshops and Signature Dining Experiences. Hallmark also introduced the Make Memories package, which it called its most immersive package yet; listed perks included access to shows, designated seating, a star breakfast, an onsite service desk, a lounge and an inside look at Hallmark. The 2026 announcement gave presale and general ticket-sale dates of May 14 and May 18, respectively, and early-bird pricing through June 15. Those dates have passed.

For 2026, the free-to-enter Crown Center Square was described as having nightly light shows illuminating the one-hundred-foot Mayor’s Christmas tree, live music and a Christmas market with local and regional vendors, food and drink, a Hallmark card-sending station and event-exclusive merchandise. Hallmark executive Lindsey Roy said the experience brings “the charm, excitement, and wonder of Hallmark Christmas off the screen and into the real world, right in Hallmark’s hometown.”
What is free and what requires a ticket or purchase?
Hallmark’s visitor guide says Crown Center Square is free to enter. Its guide lists the Light Walk, Ice Terrace skating, indoor star shows, workshops and dining as ticketed or purchase-based activities. That means visitors can enjoy the public square without buying a package, while specific attractions or scheduled experiences may have separate costs. What to know before planning a visit
- Separate the public square from ticketed attractions. Free entry to the square does not mean every activity inside or nearby is free.
- Plan around the season’s schedule. The 2024 dates and programming are historical; the 2026 details above apply to that season and should not be assumed for a later year.
- Choose activities to suit your visit. The event combines outdoor public areas with indoor, scheduled programming and package-specific perks. Hallmark’s sources do not establish that a ticket package is the best choice for every visitor.
