Teen Vogue reported that Justin Bieber was at home watching the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Florida Panthers in the opening game of the NHL playoff second round. That account documents what he was doing during the event, but does not establish a personal explanation for why he did not attend.
Why wasn’t Justin Bieber at the 2025 Met Gala?
Teen Vogue and Glamour reported that Justin watched the Maple Leafs–Panthers playoff game while Hailey attended the gala. Glamour also reported that he shared Hailey’s looks afterward. Neither report provides a direct, attributable explanation from Justin for missing the event, so it is more accurate to describe his game-night activity than to claim hockey was his stated reason.
Hailey Bieber’s Met Gala look
Vogue described Hailey’s outfit as a Saint Laurent tuxedo-style, double-breasted blazer worn without trousers, sheer tights with a rhinestone YSL logo, and black patent peep-toe platform heels. Her accessories included a Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace Vogue described as 25 carats, pear-drop earrings, and an Audemars Piguet cocktail watch. Vogue also noted that she carried a martini while leaving the Mark Hotel. Vogue’s outfit coverage is an editorial description, not an independent product verification.
The 2025 Met Gala theme
The gala took place Monday, May 5, in New York. Its theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” drew on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s spring Costume Institute exhibition, scheduled to run May 10 through October 26, 2025. The dress code was “Tailored for You,” as Vogue’s red-carpet coverage reported. The Associated Press described it as the first Met Gala focused exclusively on Black designers and the first in more than 20 years with a menswear theme; the gala raises the bulk of the Costume Institute’s budget.

What is established about Justin’s absence
Reports document separate plans: Hailey attended the event, while Justin watched the playoff game at home. They do not establish a deeper motive, and no direct explanation from Justin was verified in the coverage. Teen Vogue’s account and Glamour’s report describe the evening without supporting speculation about the couple’s relationship.
