Martinex’s comic identity and first appearance
The Grand Comics Database lists the character as Martinex T’Naga and associates him with the Guardians of the Galaxy of the 31st century in Earth-691. It records his first appearance in Marvel Super-Heroes (1967 series) #18, dated January 1969, and credits writer Arnold Drake and artist Gene Colan with creating him. That issue is the bibliographic starting point for Martinex; a later Guardians team story may be important to the group’s history, but it does not replace his recorded debut. The issue is a back issue, so its condition and availability can vary. A catalog record also describes a collected edition containing Marvel Super-Heroes #18 alongside later early Guardians-related issues, including Marvel Presents #3–12; check an edition’s exact title and contents before relying on that description. How the comic character relates to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
The film title is a useful point of entry, but it does not make the comic and movie versions interchangeable. Martinex’s documented place in the comics is with the original future Guardians in Earth-691; the Marvel Studios film belongs to its own screen continuity. The film’s official Marvel page identifies the movie, while D23 describes it as the concluding chapter of the Guardians’ story and frames its premise around Rocket’s past and the team’s effort to save him. The available film-guide text does not provide a Martinex profile. His comic biography therefore cannot establish what he does in the movie, how much screen time he has, or what his role is there. A screen-specific account needs to be grounded in the film or a production source rather than inferred from Earth-691 comics.
