Twitch’s year-end data named Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) its most-watched game title in calendar year 2024, with more than 1.4 billion hours viewed. That is a ranking among games—not every Twitch category: the non-game category Just Chatting drew more viewing time overall.
What the 2024 ranking says
Twitch’s 2024 year-end data, published in 2025 and reproduced by 4Gamer, identifies GTA V as the platform’s most-watched game title for the calendar year. Twitch reported more than 1.4 billion hours viewed for the game. This measures audience viewing time, not how long creators streamed it.
For a more precise third-party estimate, SullyGnome’s all-language annual archive records 1,439,460,481 hours watched for GTA V in 2024. SullyGnome is unaffiliated with Twitch, and its figure should not be treated as Twitch’s own published total or assumed to use an identical measurement method.
Game ranking versus all Twitch categories
“Most-watched game” is narrower than “most-watched Twitch category.” In SullyGnome’s 2024 all-language category statistics, Just Chatting—a non-game category—recorded 3,052,537,832 hours watched, more than twice GTA V’s third-party estimate. The distinction matters: GTA V led among game titles, while Just Chatting led the broader category list.

These precise totals come from SullyGnome’s 2024 annual statistics, a third-party archive. They are not Twitch-reported figures.
How large was GTA V’s lead?
In SullyGnome’s annual game list, GTA V’s 1,439,460,481 hours watched exceeded League of Legends’ 1,262,712,520 by 176,747,961 hours. Twitch’s own release used rounded figures: it reported more than 1.4 billion hours for GTA V and, separately, more than 1.19 billion for League of Legends. Those numbers come from different presentations of annual viewing and should remain attributed to their respective publishers.

Twitch also reported that viewers watched more than 15.6 billion hours of gaming content on the platform in 2024, and that it had more than 105 million average monthly active viewers. Those are Twitch-wide context figures, not GTA V audience totals. The release’s other game figures included more than 804 million hours for VALORANT, more than 539 million for Fortnite, more than 451 million for Call of Duty, more than 379 million for Minecraft, and more than 146 million for Street Fighter 6; Twitch reported more than 69 million hours for the Pokémon game series. Hours watched are not hours streamed
Hours watched measure viewers’ cumulative time watching content. Hours streamed measure the duration creators broadcast under a game category. They answer different questions and cannot be substituted for one another. SullyGnome’s archive lists 24,911,327 hours streamed for GTA V in 2024, alongside its separate 1,439,460,481-hour viewing estimate.

What the ranking does—and does not—establish
The result is specific to Twitch, game-title rankings, and calendar year 2024. It does not establish that GTA V was the most-watched game on every streaming platform, nor that it remained Twitch’s leader in later years. Stream Hatchet’s 2026 report on 2025 data says League of Legends reclaimed the overall live-streaming lead after GTA V’s 2024 win; that is cross-platform context, not a Twitch-only ranking. For any comparison, check five details: the year, platform, whether the list covers games or all categories, whether it measures hours watched or streamed, and who published the numbers. In this case, those distinctions explain how GTA V can be Twitch’s most-watched game of 2024 while Just Chatting is the larger overall category.
