2011: Reports place the start of their relationship
The Los Angeles Times reports that Gerwig and Baumbach reportedly began dating in 2011, while working together on Frances Ha. Oprah Daily, in a 2020 timeline citing The New Yorker, places the beginning of their romance after Baumbach’s separation from Jennifer Jason Leigh. These accounts give a broad timeframe, not an exact start date.
Meeting on Greenberg in 2010 and beginning a relationship the following year are separate milestones. The cited reporting does not establish an earlier romance or support speculation about an overlap.

2012–2013: Frances Ha launches a major collaboration

On December 20, the Associated Press reported that a representative confirmed the filmmakers were married. The Los Angeles Times said they had wed the previous day at New York City Hall, citing other outlets’ reporting. The confirmation establishes that they were married by December 20; the specific date and venue come from contemporaneous press accounts.
