Gremlins 3 is currently slated for a U.S. theatrical release on October 6, 2028, according to TheWrap’s report of Warner Bros.’ date announcement and Variety. That replaces the previously announced November 19, 2027 date. One report differs by a day: the Los Angeles Times lists October 8, 2028.
When is Gremlins 3 coming out?
The strongest reporting supports an October 6, 2028 U.S. theatrical date. TheWrap reported that Warner Bros. announced the date with the post “10.6.28. Only In Theaters,” and Variety also lists October 6. The Los Angeles Times reported October 8, so the exact day has a one-day discrepancy in published coverage.

The release had previously been scheduled for November 19, 2027. The new date moves the film roughly eleven months later, back to fall 2028. The reports do not establish why Warner Bros. changed the date. The Los Angeles Times says the shift is unrelated to the pending Warner Bros. Discovery merger, citing Deadline, but does not give a reason for the move.
What is confirmed about the new Gremlins movie?
Director, writer and producers
Chris Columbus is directing and producing the film. Hannah Marks is writing the current script, based on an earlier draft by Columbus, Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein. The producers also include Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario of Amblin Entertainment, and Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe of 26th Street Pictures. Steven Spielberg and Eleanor Columbus are executive producers, according to Variety and TheWrap.

Title, story and cast
In its September 24, 2026 report, Variety said the film’s official title, plot details and casting had not been disclosed. The October date announcement included a short Gizmo teaser; the Los Angeles Times describes Gizmo inside a backpack. No story or cast details should be treated as confirmed on the basis of that teaser.
Why is Gremlins 3 a notable return?
The original Gremlins arrived in 1984, and Gremlins 2: The New Batch followed in 1990. The new film would bring the series back to theaters after that long gap. The franchise’s familiar Mogwai rules—keep them away from water, don’t feed them after midnight, and protect them from bright light—set the premise, but no details confirm how the third film will use it.
