Green Day announced three Australian stadium dates for The Saviors Tour in March 2025, built around complete performances of Dookie and American Idiot alongside songs from Saviors and other hits. Melbourne and Sydney shows took place; the scheduled Gold Coast concert was cancelled the day before because of Tropical Cyclone Alfred and was not rescheduled.
What Green Day announced
Rolling Stone Australia reported the tour announcement on 12 September 2024. Green Day’s planned return comprised three stadium shows, with AFI named as a special guest. The central draw was the promise to play Dookie (1994) and American Idiot (2004) in their entirety, as well as songs from the band’s then-current album, Saviors, and other Green Day hits.
The Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s event listing also described the full-album format and identified the Sydney concert as part of the 2024/25 Saviors Tour, presented by Live Nation and Triple M. ABC Double J connected the selection of the two older albums to their 30th and 20th anniversaries, respectively, as framed around the 2024 announcement.
In the announcement, Green Day said: “We’ve never been more excited to unleash new music than with Saviors, a record that’s meant to be rocked live, together. And we cannot wait to return to Australia, it’s been way too long. So let’s thrash.” Rolling Stone Australia reproduced the statement.

Announced Australian dates and eventual status
| City | Advertised date | Venue | Event status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Melbourne | Saturday, 1 March 2025 | Marvel Stadium | Reported as having taken place. |
| Sydney | Monday, 3 March 2025 | ENGIE Stadium, Sydney Showground | Reported as having taken place. |
| Gold Coast | Wednesday, 5 March 2025 | Cbus Super Stadium | Cancelled on 4 March 2025; not rescheduled. |
The three dates were the advertised itinerary, not three completed concerts. The Gold Coast cancellation left Melbourne and Sydney as the dates that went ahead.
How the support bill changed
AFI was included as a special guest in the original announcement. On 12 February 2025, Rolling Stone Australia reported that Australian punk band Private Function had been added as local support. The later bill therefore included both AFI and Private Function; Private Function should not be presented as part of the September 2024 announcement.

Why the Gold Coast show was cancelled
On 4 March 2025, the day before the scheduled Cbus Super Stadium concert, Green Day and the venue announced its cancellation because of Tropical Cyclone Alfred. ABC reported that Live Nation confirmed the event was cancelled rather than postponed. The band’s international schedule made rescheduling impossible, and Ticketmaster was to issue automatic refunds to ticket holders.
Green Day’s Instagram statement, as reproduced by ABC, said: “Hey Australia, unfortunately due to circumstances out of our control, tomorrow’s Gold Coast show has been cancelled.”

The albums behind the full-album concept
The announcement put two landmark Green Day records at the centre of the tour. ABC Double J reported that Dookie had sold 27 million copies; that is the figure reported by the outlet in 2024, not a newly verified current sales total. The anniversary framing paired that 1994 album with American Idiot, released in 2004.
For listeners drawn to the concept, physical editions of Dookie and American Idiot are directly relevant ways to revisit the records. This article does not identify a particular pressing or confirm current stock, prices, or retailer availability.
