What does Album of the Year recognize?
Album of the Year honors overall achievement on an album, not solely the performing artist. The Recording Academy’s 2025 category page describes the award as recognizing the artist, featured artists, songwriters, producers, recording engineers, mixers and mastering engineers. It lists the credited contributors for COWBOY CARTER.
For the 2025 awards, eligible recordings had to be released between September 16, 2023, and August 30, 2024, according to that category page.

What did Beyoncé say in her acceptance speech?
Beyoncé thanked firefighters and the people who worked with her on the album, including its songwriters, collaborators and producers. She dedicated the award to Linda Martell, saying: “I want to dedicate this to Mrs. Martell, and I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors. God bless y’all.” The Recording Academy also reported her saying, “I just feel very full and very honored.”
The Academy’s February 3, 2025 report on the speech noted that this was Beyoncé’s first Album of the Year win after six nominations in the category.
