Gordon Ramsay said he had a basal cell carcinoma removed and shared photos showing stitches and a scar below his ear. In the caption reproduced by Hindustan Times/ANI, he joked that it was “not a facelift” and reminded followers to use sunscreen.
What happened to Gordon Ramsay’s face?
In a post reported on August 30, 2025, Ramsay showed a stitched area below his ear and said he was grateful to the team at The Skin Associates for removing a basal cell carcinoma. His caption, as reproduced by Hindustan Times/ANI, included the line: “Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend, I promise you it’s not a facelift! I’d need a refund.”
The joke addressed the visible stitches and scar; Ramsay said they were related to cancer removal, not cosmetic surgery.
What is known—and not known—about his diagnosis
Ramsay’s reported caption names basal cell carcinoma. The news report does not provide his pathology report, cancer stage, surgical technique, margins, or an individual prognosis. The photographs and short caption are not enough to establish those details or to conclude that his case was early, fully cured, or free of future risk.
Basal cell carcinoma is a type of skin cancer. For general information on symptoms, tests, and treatment for non-melanoma skin cancer, consult the NHS overview. A concerning or changing skin mark should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional; a photograph of a celebrity’s scar cannot diagnose anyone else.
Ramsay’s sunscreen reminder
Ramsay’s reported caption urged followers not to forget sunscreen. Cancer Research UK’s response, as quoted by Hindustan Times/ANI, was: “Seek shade, cover up, and apply sunscreen regularly and generously.” These are general sun-safety measures, not evidence that a particular product would have prevented Ramsay’s cancer.
