Google and YouTube marked BTS ARMY Day in July 2022 with a temporary fan experience. Searching Google for BTS revealed a flashing purple heart; clicking it released purple balloons, including special balloons that played BTS members saying “I purple you” and showed handwritten messages. Google Arts & Culture also offered a BTS-themed Street View tour of 14 locations. The campaign was tied to July 9, 2022, and its availability in 2026 is not confirmed.
What is BTS ARMY Day?
ARMY is the official name of BTS’s fandom. July 9 is observed as ARMY Day, associated with the anniversary of the fandom’s naming. It is a fan celebration, not a permanent Google holiday or product feature.
Google and YouTube announced their collaboration on July 8, 2022, ahead of that year’s ARMY Day. The promotion combined a Google Search easter egg, a Google Arts & Culture experience and a YouTube fan challenge. Contemporary details were reported by 9to5Google and The National.
How the Google Search easter egg worked
- Open Google Search.
- Search for BTS. The original 2022 report documented this query, rather than requiring the exact phrase “BTS ARMY Day.”
- Find the flashing purple heart on the results page and click it.
- Purple balloons float across the page. Click ordinary balloons to pop them.
- Look for the special heart-shaped or microphone-style balloons. Selecting one plays a BTS-related audio message and displays a handwritten note from a member.
The messages included members saying “I purple you.” Contemporary coverage linked that phrase to V and described purple as expressing enduring trust and love. That explanation reflects the BTS context reported at the time; it was not a general Google slogan.

The BTS Google Arts & Culture Street View tour
The promotion extended beyond the Search animation. Google Arts & Culture presented a Street View-based BTS tour covering 14 locations connected with the group’s career and history, according to the contemporary reports.
- Explorable places: The experience used Street View to let fans move through selected sites.
- BTS-associated artwork: The locations included artwork selected or curated in connection with the members.
- Decorating tool: Fans could add decorations to one of the locations as part of the interactive experience.
Examples mentioned in coverage included the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the Cheonggu Building in Seoul and the United Nations in New York City. These examples identify places featured in the 2022 project; they do not establish that the same tour interface remains online.

The related YouTube activity: #MyBTStory
YouTube’s part of the collaboration was the #MyBTStory challenge. Fans were invited to share memories of BTS, making it a community activity rather than another Search trigger. The announcement said the campaign would conclude with a special BTS tribute video on the group’s YouTube channel on July 13, 2022. The contemporary report described that date as scheduled timing, so it should not be treated as confirmation of the video’s eventual upload without separate verification.
Was the trigger “BTS” or “BTS ARMY Day”?
The documented original trigger was simply BTS. A later 2026 how-to article describes trying “BTS ARMY Day” and related queries, but that is secondary coverage and does not change the contemporaneous instructions. “BTS ARMY Day” is therefore a useful description of the promotion, not a verified permanent activation phrase.

Does the easter egg still work?
You can still try searching Google for BTS in a browser or the Google app, but a normal BTS results page should be expected if the promotion has expired. Search features can also vary by country, device, interface and date. If no purple heart appears, that is more likely to reflect the campaign’s temporary nature or a changed results page than a mistake in your search.

The later guide from Position Is Everything discusses query variants and possible access problems, but it does not provide Google confirmation that the 2022 experience is still live. Do not assume that a shared link, a different browser or a map view will restore an expired promotion.

What to remember
Google’s BTS ARMY Day feature was a time-limited July 2022 collaboration celebrating BTS fans. The memorable sequence was: search BTS, click the purple heart, pop balloons and find the special audio balloons. The 14-location Arts & Culture tour and the #MyBTStory challenge were related parts of that same campaign. In 2026, treat the experience as a historical promotion rather than a guaranteed live Google feature.
