Movies Anywhere currently lists Google Play/YouTube as a participating digital retailer. The participant list dated June 8, 2026, places Google alongside Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango, Xfinity, Verizon Fios TV and DIRECTV. The return follows Google’s withdrawal from Movies Anywhere effective October 31, 2025, but it does not make every Google movie transferable or guarantee that every account reconnects automatically.
The short version
- Google’s official Movies Anywhere retailer label is Google Play/YouTube, not simply Google TV.
- Eligible movies can synchronize among connected participating retailers, including Google’s services.
- Movies Anywhere is available for eligible titles in the United States; it is not a worldwide movie locker.
- Studio participation, title eligibility, retailer support and the correct account all matter.
- The exact date on which synchronization was fully restored for every account has not been established publicly, so users who disconnected Google may need to reconnect it manually.

Why “again” matters
Google previously worked with Movies Anywhere, allowing eligible purchases to appear across connected services. Movies Anywhere notices and contemporaneous user reports indicate that Google stopped participating on October 31, 2025. The current participant list shows that the relationship has since returned.
This is a restoration of a retailer connection, not the launch of a new Google-owned service. Movies Anywhere’s current terms identify the retailer as Google Play/YouTube. Google TV and YouTube are now the practical interfaces for Google-associated movie libraries, while the older Google Play Movies & TV branding is no longer the general purchasing interface on mobile.
#1 Best Overall
Google’s earlier announcement from 2017 provides historical context for the original integration: Google Play and Movies Anywhere bring your movies together.
What synchronization actually does
Movies Anywhere acts as a connection between participating retailer accounts. After you link the accounts, an eligible movie bought or redeemed through one connected retailer can appear in the libraries of the others. You can also watch through the Movies Anywhere app where supported.
That does not mean every video in a Google account is imported. A movie must be an eligible Movies Anywhere title, come from a participating studio, be supported by the relevant retailer and be attached to the Google account you connected.

- It's a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
Buying, redeeming and watching are different events
- Buying from Google: The transaction is held in your Google library. If the title qualifies and the accounts are connected, it may synchronize through Movies Anywhere.
- Redeeming a digital code through Movies Anywhere: The title can be delivered to connected retailers that support it.
- Watching on Google: A synchronized title may be available in Google TV or YouTube, subject to the title and device’s supported format.
- Watching in Movies Anywhere: The title can be played in the Movies Anywhere app or website if it is present in your Movies Anywhere collection.
How to reconnect Google Play/YouTube
Button names can vary slightly with the current website design, but the verified workflow is:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- Sign in to Movies Anywhere.
- Open your account settings or Manage Retailers.
- Select Google Play/YouTube.
- Choose the option to connect a Google account.
- Sign in with the Google account that owns the movie purchases.
- Authorize the connection.
- Return to Movies Anywhere and open My Movies.
- Check Google TV or YouTube for eligible titles.
Google says that connecting your Google account is required to use the Movies Anywhere app on supported smart TVs. Movies Anywhere itself has no subscription fee; you pay for individual movie purchases or rentals.

Google moved movie and television purchasing on Android mobile devices from the Google Play app to Google TV beginning in September 2022. Purchased content remained available in Google TV. The older Google Play Movies & TV app name should not be used as your only guide when looking for a current library. See Google’s migration notice.

Which movies qualify?
Movies Anywhere’s terms identify participating studios that include:
- The Walt Disney Studios, including Twentieth Century Film
- Sony Pictures Entertainment
- Universal
- Warner Bros.
Studio participation is not a title-by-title guarantee. A movie can fail to synchronize because it is a rental, a television show or episode, an unsupported edition, a title with different digital rights in another country, or a retailer-restricted release. A movie being available to buy on Google does not prove that it is a Movies Anywhere title.

Google’s documentation describes Movies Anywhere access as limited to eligible titles in the United States. Retailer libraries can also differ in extras, subtitles, audio formats, resolution and playback features. Movies Anywhere advertises support for formats such as 4K UHD, HDR, Dolby Vision, 5.1 surround and Dolby Atmos, but the format offered depends on the specific title and retailer. See the Movies Anywhere terms and the Movies Anywhere app listing.

What happens to purchases made during the interruption?
Existing Google purchases
Previously eligible purchases associated with the connected Google account should remain in that Google library. Google states that purchased content continues to be available in Google TV after the move away from the Google Play Movies & TV app. Whether each title also appears through Movies Anywhere still depends on eligibility and account matching.
Movies bought from other retailers while Google was disconnected
Do not assume those titles will automatically backfill into Google. Reconnect the account, check My Movies in Movies Anywhere and then check the Google library. Title eligibility, the account used and the timing of the restoration can affect what appears.
New purchases and redemptions
Because Google Play/YouTube is again on the current participant list, eligible new purchases or redemptions should synchronize after the correct accounts are connected. They may not appear instantly, and not every transaction qualifies.

- The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords are scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they enlist the help of Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. Some flashing lights sequences or patterns may affect photosensitive viewers.
If a movie is missing
- Confirm that Movies Anywhere is connected to the same intended Google account used for the purchase.
- Sign out of Google TV or YouTube, then sign back in.
- Check My Movies on the Movies Anywhere website or app.
- Verify that the item is a movie, not a television show, episode or rental.
- Check the studio and title’s Movies Anywhere eligibility.
- Confirm that the purchase came through a supported retailer account.
- Allow time for the library to refresh.
- Check the web or mobile service instead of relying only on a television’s integrated library display.
- Contact Movies Anywhere or Google support if the title appears in one connected service but not the other.
The account problem to check first
Multiple Google accounts, YouTube profiles, family accounts and brand accounts can make the wrong library look empty. The purchase must belong to the Google account linked to Movies Anywhere. Google specifically advises signing in with the account used for the purchase.
What the return does not mean
- Google does not own Movies Anywhere.
- Every Google video is not imported into Movies Anywhere.
- Television shows are not covered simply because they are in your Google library.
- Rentals are not permanent additions to a Movies Anywhere collection.
- Every title from a participating studio is not automatically eligible.
- The service is not globally available; Google’s current documentation describes U.S. access for eligible titles.
- Every account will not necessarily show the connection immediately or repair itself without user action.
- The discontinued Google Play Movies & TV app is not being restored on every television platform.
What this means when choosing where to buy
Google/YouTube is again a practical option for U.S. users who already rely on Google TV, YouTube or Google-compatible devices. Movies Anywhere can reduce dependence on a single retailer by synchronizing eligible purchases across connected services. Before buying, verify the individual title rather than relying only on the studio name.
Compare the retailer’s current price, 4K or HDR availability, audio formats, subtitles, extras and redemption restrictions. A movie that appears in Google’s library may be a direct Google purchase rather than a Movies Anywhere synchronization, and the same title can have different features at different retailers.
Other current Movies Anywhere participants include Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Fandango, Xfinity, Verizon Fios TV and DIRECTV. The complete list is maintained at Movies Anywhere.
