Use the date and your time zone when checking these pages. A service can respond normally in one region while a network route, mobile API or individual feature is failing elsewhere.
Quick test: is the app broken or is Goodreads down?
- Open Goodreads.com in a normal browser.
- Open it again in a private or incognito window, first signed out and then signed in.
- Switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, or from cellular data to Wi-Fi.
- Try another device if one is available.
- Note exactly what fails: opening, login, search, shelves, reviews, status updates, notifications or synchronization.

The Google Play listing identifies the app as Goodreads: Book Tracker & More. It showed an update dated May 27, 2026; rollout timing can vary by country and device. Check the listing at Google Play rather than relying on an old version number.

- Force close Goodreads and reopen it.
- Restart the phone.
- In Google Play, check for a Goodreads update. Also install any pending Android system update.
- Open Android settings, choose Goodreads, tap Force stop, then open Storage and cache and choose Clear cache.
- Try Goodreads.com in a browser and switch networks.
- If the app permits it, sign out and sign back in.
- Reinstall only after confirming that your email address, password and recovery method work on the website.
Clearing cache normally removes temporary files. Clearing storage or app data removes the local session and settings, so do not do that until you know your credentials. Reinstalling cannot repair a Goodreads server outage. The Android listing provides support routes including [email protected] and [email protected]; verify current details in the listing or use Goodreads’ contact form.
iPhone and iPad
Goodreads’ current iOS troubleshooting menu labels and supported versions are not established here, so use the standard sequence for your iOS release:
- Force quit Goodreads and reopen it.
- Restart the iPhone or iPad.
- Check the App Store for a Goodreads update.
- Test Goodreads.com in Safari, including a private tab.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data.
- Confirm that the device has enough free storage.
- Delete and reinstall the app only after confirming website access to the original account.
Menu names vary by iOS version. Reinstalling can remove the local login session without fixing a server-side failure.

Fix specific Goodreads problems
Login fails or loops
- Check the password and use the official recovery flow for a forgotten password.
- Try a private browser window. If browser login works but the app loops, the app session or stored cookies may be the problem.
- If the account was created through an earlier social-login method, use the original sign-in route or account recovery rather than creating a second account.
- If a reset email does not arrive, check spam and confirm that you are using the address attached to the original account.
- The official account-access destination is Goodreads Help. The help portal has recently returned a Salesforce loading error in some environments, so use the contact form if it will not load.
Do not create a new account as an early workaround: it can separate your shelves, reviews, friends and reading history from the original account.
Search is blank or returns no books
Try the same search in a browser while signed out and signed in. Search can fail while book pages remain available, indicating a feature or app-data problem rather than a complete outage. Wait before repeatedly submitting searches if results are intermittently loading.
Reviews or ratings will not post
Copy a long review into a notes app before retrying. Refresh the book page and check your profile to see whether the first attempt actually posted; repeated taps can create duplicates. Record the title, author, time, device and exact error message.

Shelves or reading progress do not sync
Check the website and the book page before assuming data was deleted. A display or synchronization failure does not by itself demonstrate deletion. App-only and feature-specific failures have been described by users, including Android update-feed and search problems, but community reports are anecdotal rather than proof of the current incident.
The app crashes, stays blank or loads forever
Force close, restart, update and test the website. On Android, clear cache before clearing storage. Check free storage, device time, VPN or private-DNS settings, ad blockers, security filters and background-data restrictions. These can interfere with scripts, authentication, notifications or synchronization.

Try the browser and another network. Battery-saver and background-data restrictions can delay notifications even when Goodreads itself is reachable. A successful website response from a monitor does not verify every community or notification service.

When should you wait instead of reinstalling?
- If several monitors show a report spike and both the app and website fail across networks, wait and monitor.
- If only one feature fails, use the browser when possible and retry later.
- If Goodreads fails for several hours on multiple networks and devices, contact support.
- Do not repeatedly reset passwords, clear all app data or delete an account while a service-side issue is plausible.
Some third-party monitoring records show incidents lasting roughly 45–59 minutes on dates in 2026. That history is not a forecast for August 18, 2026, and Goodreads has not published a restoration time here.
Contact Goodreads with useful evidence
Use the official Goodreads contact form. Include:
- phone or tablet model;
- Android or iOS version;
- Goodreads app version;
- country or general location and whether you used Wi-Fi or cellular data;
- the affected feature and exact error text;
- approximate start time;
- whether Goodreads.com works signed out and signed in;
- a screenshot, resized if necessary to meet upload limits.
That information helps distinguish an app release problem, account-access issue, network fault and service-side incident.
