In a Season 5 storyline for Ghosts, Sam (Rose McIver) decides to tell someone new that she can see ghosts, and her reason is Trevor. The aim is to help him build a relationship with his living daughter, Abby, who returns for a two-part story after first appearing in Season 4.
What the twist actually is
The change is a disclosure. Sam has kept her ability to perceive the ghosts in the house a secret from the living world, and in this storyline she chooses to share it with a person outside that circle. The reporting describes the decision as Sam’s, made with Trevor’s interests in mind rather than her own. Trevor is played by Asher Grodman, and his daughter Abby is played by Gideon Adlon.

Why the reveal is about relationships, not rules
Trevor’s problem is the gap between him and Abby. Because Sam is the one who can bridge the two worlds, her willingness to tell someone new about her sight becomes the mechanism for getting Trevor closer to his daughter. That makes the twist a character milestone: it changes who knows what, and what Sam is willing to risk for a friend.
The phrase “new territory” fits that reading. It describes the emotional stakes of a secret being shared. It does not, on the evidence available, signal a change to how the show’s supernatural rules work, and this article does not treat it as one.

Abby’s return
Abby is not a new character. She first appeared in Season 4, and this storyline brings her back for two episodes. Her return is what gives the disclosure its immediate purpose, since Sam’s decision is tied to Trevor’s wish to connect with her.

- Exact episode titles and air dates. The reporting used here does not confirm them, so check the schedule on the network or streaming service carrying the season before planning a viewing.
- How the story resolves. Nothing in the source says whether the person Sam tells accepts the news, reacts badly, or whether Abby learns about Trevor’s situation in full.
- Direct quotes from the cast. The account is a plot summary. It contains no attributable statements from Asher Grodman, Gideon Adlon, or Rose McIver on this storyline.
- Any sweeping change to the series. Calling this a rewrite of the show’s world would go beyond what is documented.
The primary account is an excerpt from Collider’s reporting, reproduced on IMDb’s news page for the performer: IMDb news page reproducing the Collider excerpt. The original interview page and its publication date were not accessible when this article was prepared, so the details above rest on that excerpt alone.
Rank #2
Readers who want the full storyline should wait for the episodes themselves or the original interview, rather than relying on speculation about where the two-part arc goes.
