Ghich Pich is a warm, nostalgia-tinged coming-of-age drama about teenage friendship and the friction between middle-class Indian fathers and their sons. Its emotional observations and performances give the story tenderness, even as its underlying pattern feels familiar.
What is Ghich Pich about?
Written and directed by Ankur Singla, the film follows three teenage friends—Gurpreet, Gaurav and Anurag—as they navigate ambition, insecurity, rebellion and family expectations. Their friendships give the story a youthful center, while conflicts with their fathers bring tradition and generational difference into focus.
The film’s setting is part of its appeal, though sources describe its period differently. The official website and Rotten Tomatoes place it in 1990s Chandigarh; Scroll.in identifies the setting as Chandigarh in 2001. Rather than treating those descriptions as interchangeable, it is safest to say the film builds its atmosphere around Chandigarh and a period past.
How well do the characters and performances work?
The ensemble is one of the film’s strengths. Rotten Tomatoes’ collected critic responses emphasize the performances and the drama’s tenderness, while The Times of India praises the ensemble and says the film has a clear voice. That support helps the family relationships feel personal rather than merely illustrative of a broad generation gap.

Does its familiar story still feel affecting?
The central tensions—teenagers pushing against parental expectations, fathers struggling with change, and friends finding their way through adolescence—are recognizable coming-of-age material. Scroll.in’s review headline calls it a familiar fathers-and-sons tale. That familiarity is a limit: the premise does not depend on a radically new narrative shape.

But familiar does not mean emotionally empty. The Hindu review excerpt collected by Rotten Tomatoes describes a nostalgia-dipped slice-of-life drama attentive to small adjustments in life; Filmfare highlights the bittersweet turbulence of adolescence. High on Films also frames it as a slice-of-life story about teenagers in difficult relationships with their fathers. Together, these responses point to the film’s best case: its value lies less in surprise than in the warmth of its observations, performances and sense of place. Whether that is enough will depend on how much a viewer wants novelty from a coming-of-age story.
