ABC News says Stephanopoulos and Wentworth met on a blind date. An Associated Press report carried by CBS News adds that Wentworth was working in Los Angeles when they met in 2001. Neither account gives the precise date of their first meeting, so the public record supports the year and circumstances, not a more exact start to their relationship. June 2001: Their engagement is reported
The Washington Post reported on June 7, 2001, that the couple were engaged after vacationing in the Greek islands. The report said Wentworth’s sister had described the blue diamond engagement ring. This is the contemporaneous engagement announcement; it does not establish a fuller sequence of their dates or the exact day of the proposal. The Washington Post
Stephanopoulos’s later account of the proposal
Stephanopoulos later told his Good Morning America co-anchor Robin Roberts that Wentworth was asleep when he proposed. “I took her to Greece so she sort of knew it was coming, but it was while she was taking a nap,” he recalled. He added, “And she did say yes when she woke up.” ABC News

ABC News reports that Stephanopoulos and Wentworth married in New York City on November 20, 2001. Wentworth described the ceremony as a “traditional Greek wedding, which included Greek dancing.” ABC News
After the wedding: Wentworth says she became pregnant on their honeymoon
In a 2003 Associated Press report, Wentworth recalled moving east and becoming pregnant on their honeymoon. “I moved East,” she said, “then I got pregnant on our honeymoon. So I decided, ‘I’m off the air for a while.’” The report gives no birth date, so it does not support inferring one from this account. Associated Press via CBS News
