Matt and Nick Jackson’s main TNA run lasted from their January 2010 television debut as Generation Me—Max and Jeremy Buck—until they sought their release in 2011. It gave the Young Bucks opportunities against the Motor City Machine Guns and in the X Division, but the brothers later said the pay-per-appearance deals, limited use and inconsistent character direction made staying difficult.
From a TNA tryout to Generation Me
The brothers’ path to television began with a tryout dark match against the Motor City Machine Guns at Impact tapings on December 21, 2009. TNA president Dixie Carter announced their signing later that month, according to a career chronology. They debuted on the January 14, 2010 episode of Impact as Generation Me, with Matt performing as Max Buck and Nick as Jeremy Buck. [c004]
The name and characters separated the team’s TNA presentation from the Young Bucks identity they were known by elsewhere. In the ring, their opportunities included both tag-team competition and individual X Division action.

A shot at tag-team contention
Generation Me faced the Motor City Machine Guns in an Ultimate X match for number-one contendership to the TNA World Tag Team Championship. They lost. The match placed the young team in a prominent tag-team rivalry, though the available chronology does not establish a complete record of their matches or championship opportunities. [c004]

Jeremy Buck’s ladder-match win
Jeremy also had a singles opportunity: on July 8, 2010, he defeated X Division Champion Douglas Williams in a non-title ladder match. Because the championship was not at stake, the result was a notable win rather than a title change. [c004]
Why the Young Bucks asked to leave TNA
The brothers’ explanation centered on compensation and opportunity. In a July 2011 interview, they said their contracts paid per appearance, they wanted a guarantee and did not receive one, and they also hoped to sign with a major wrestling company. One contemporary report quoted an unidentified brother describing the deals as “crumby” and saying, “you got paid-per-appearance.” The report did not identify which brother said those words. [c001]

In an August 2011 interview, Matt Jackson said they sought their release because they were not being used enough to budget money for their families. He also described irregular television appearances and uncertainty over whether Generation Me were being presented as heels or faces. In his account, the character direction lacked continuity. Those are the brothers’ judgments about their experience, not independently established explanations of TNA’s booking decisions. [c002]
Matt also said the brothers were proud of the run and believed they had shown what they could do on some occasions. He acknowledged that they could have handled parts of the experience differently. In a later retrospective, he summed up their decision this way: “Call it blind confidence, or young arrogance, we just saw something in ourselves that they did not, and we had the courage to make a change.” [c002] [c003]

The 2011 release request and later TNA appearances
A 2026 retrospective places the release request after Generation Me’s match against Eric Young and Shark Boy at Destination X on July 10, 2011. The contemporary interviews establish that the brothers sought their release; that specific event context and date come from the later account. [c001] [c002] [c003]
The main Generation Me run should be distinguished from the brothers’ later TNA appearances. The retrospective reports returns at One Night Only in 2013 and Against All Odds in 2021. Those appearances came after the 2010–2011 stretch and do not extend it. [c003]

What Generation Me’s TNA run shows
The run brought the Young Bucks into TNA as Max and Jeremy Buck, with a tag-team rivalry against the Motor City Machine Guns and a separate singles showcase for Jeremy. Its ending, as the brothers described it, reflected the practical limits of per-appearance pay without a guarantee, alongside their concerns about how often they appeared and how consistently their characters were presented. The selected milestones document that arc, not a complete match-by-match history.
