Gary Adshead’s reported move from Perth radio station 6PR to the ABC was a 2024 story; he went on to present Drive on ABC Radio Perth. Later reporting said he planned to leave radio at the end of 2025, with Oliver Peterson named as the incoming Drive presenter for 2026. The “talkback turbulence” in the original headline described the wider upheaval at 6PR, not a confirmed reason for Adshead’s move.
What was reported about Adshead leaving 6PR?
On 25 October 2024, PerthNow reported that Adshead was expected to leave 6PR and host a show on the ABC. The report did not establish his final date at 6PR, so the move was reported as expected rather than as a departure with a confirmed end date. PerthNow’s October 2024 report described the station backdrop, but did not establish Adshead’s personal reason for leaving.
What was the 6PR backdrop?
The move was reported amid cancellations of programs and staff redundancies at 6PR. PerthNow linked those broader changes to shrinking advertising revenue and rising costs. That context explains the headline’s reference to “talkback turbulence”; it does not show that station-wide pressures caused Adshead to leave.
What role did Adshead have before the move?
Adshead had joined 6PR Mornings in November 2022, replacing Liam Bartlett, with his first program scheduled for Monday 21 November. In its appointment announcement, 6PR described him as an investigative reporter with almost 40 years’ experience across television, radio and print. Adshead said, “It’s a privilege to take the reigns of the Mornings program and reconnect with the listeners.”
