The “It Could Be Two Years” wording cannot be verified from the available reporting, so it should not be treated as a confirmed quote from Garth Brooks or as a reliable estimate of when either lawsuit will end. What is established in the cited coverage is that a former hair-and-makeup artist sued Brooks in California in 2024, Brooks denied her allegations, and he brought a separate lawsuit in Mississippi. Neither side’s claims are findings of fact.

What the California lawsuit alleges

A former hair-and-makeup artist, identified in the California civil case as Jane Roe, accused Brooks of sexual assault and battery. The Washington Post reported on October 4, 2024, that the lawsuit included an allegation of an assault in Los Angeles in 2019. These are the plaintiff’s claims, not established facts or a court finding. The Washington Post’s October 4, 2024 report describes the complaint and Brooks’s response.

A September 2026 overview by CourtDocket.org dates the California filing to October 3, 2024. The contemporaneous Washington Post coverage confirms that it was filed in October 2024. CourtDocket.org’s overview provides the specific filing date.

What Brooks says and why there is a second case

Brooks denied the accusations. He also filed a separate lawsuit in Mississippi, alleging extortion and defamation by the accuser, according to the October 2024 reporting and the 2026 overview. Those are Brooks’s allegations; they do not resolve the California plaintiff’s claims. The Washington Post report describes the separate case.

What the “It Could Be Two Years” wording means

The exact phrase and its context could not be verified in the sources cited here. It is therefore not possible to establish that Brooks said it, what event or process the timeframe referred to, or whether it was intended as a prediction about either case. The wording should not be read as a confirmed trial date or an estimate attributable to Brooks.

Is there a trial date or a current ruling?

CourtDocket.org’s September 2026 overview described both cases as unresolved, with no trial date set as of mid-2026. That dated secondary account does not establish the status on October 8, 2026, and the sources cited here do not verify later docket activity, a ruling, or a trial date. The overview’s procedural snapshot is limited to mid-2026.

There was also a dispute over Brooks naming the plaintiff in a filing after she had sued under a pseudonym. The Washington Post reported on October 9, 2024, that she sought sanctions over the naming. That report describes a dispute about identity and court filings; it does not establish the merits of either lawsuit. The Washington Post’s October 9 report covers that development.
