Yes. Emilia Clarke said she performed Daenerys Targaryen’s Season 6 emergence from the flames herself—not with a body double—and that she was glad she agreed to the scene. It happens in “Book of the Stranger,” when Daenerys turns the Khals’ attempt to decide her fate into a display of power.
Which Game of Thrones episode is the scene in?
The scene is in Season 6’s “Book of the Stranger.” Daenerys is being held among the Dothraki after Khal Drogo’s death. When the Khals consider what to do with her, she sets their meeting place alight. She then walks out before the waiting Dothraki crowd, which bows to her. The moment marks a dramatic return to power and a turning point in her leadership of the group. Vanity Fair’s contemporaneous account and Entertainment Tonight’s report identify the episode and describe the scene.
Was Emilia Clarke really naked, or was it a body double?
Clarke said it was her, not a body double. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the scene, she said: “This is all me, all proud, all strong. I’m just feeling genuinely happy I said ‘Yes.’ That ain’t no body double!” Her remarks were reported by Vanity Fair and ET.
Clarke also told Entertainment Weekly that she had not appeared nude on the show since Season 3. She described the Season 6 scene as filmed on a private, closed set, and said the effects made her feel more in control than she had during the outdoor scene in the first season. These details come from her reported interview remarks, rather than an independently published production record.

What did Clarke say about agreeing to the scene?
Her comments connect the scene to her understanding of what nudity can do in a story. In a clarification reproduced by Vanity Fair, Clarke said: “In drama, if a nude scene forwards a story or is shot in a way that adds insight into characters, I’m perfectly fine with it.” She added: “If it’s gratuitous for gratuitous sake, then I will discuss with a director on how to make it more subtle.”
That makes her “happy I said ‘Yes’” comment specific to this scene; it is not a blanket endorsement of every nude scene or every set of circumstances.

In 2019, Clarke spoke on Dax Shepard’s podcast about being inexperienced when she began Game of Thrones and feeling unsure about what she could ask for. The Guardian quoted her recalling: “I’ve never been on a film set like this before. I’d been on a film set twice before then, and I’m now on a film set completely naked with all of these people, and I don’t know what I’m meant to do, and I don’t know what’s expected of me, and I don’t know what you want, and I don’t know what I want.” The Guardian’s account also noted her recollection that Jason Momoa looked out for her.
In separate 2019 remarks reported by TIME, Clarke described later pushing back when she was asked to reveal more than she felt was necessary. Those reflections concern her early uncertainty and how she came to assert boundaries; they do not contradict her decision to do the Season 6 scene.
