What happened to Game Informer?
GameStop closed Game Informer in August 2024. On March 25, 2025, the magazine announced that it was returning under new ownership. GameSpot’s report on the relaunch and Engadget’s report describe the closure and comeback.
Who owns Game Informer now?
Gunzilla Games acquired Game Informer’s rights, according to editor-in-chief Matt Miller’s March 25, 2025 editor’s letter. Miller said the publication would operate under an entity called Game Informer Inc. Gunzilla also announced the acquisition in its announcement.
Did the whole team return?
That is what Miller said in the relaunch letter: “The whole team has returned, and we can’t wait to connect with you again.” He described the returning staff as the team that had been working together when the publication closed, across editorial, production, and other functions. Gunzilla’s announcement likewise said it was bringing the publication back with its original editorial team.

Miller said the new owners wanted Game Informer to remain an independent editorial outlet, with its editorial group making decisions about coverage without owner influence. That is the publication’s stated arrangement, as described by its editor-in-chief; the announcement itself does not independently establish how that commitment has operated in practice.

Miller said the website and years of back content were available again, with daily updates set to resume. Gunzilla said the digital archive of magazine back issues would be added at no cost. The March 2025 announcements described print, membership, and subscription options as plans still being developed. They do not establish whether a current print issue or subscription can now be purchased.
