Galaxy Quest crossed into the world of Star Trek Fleet Command through a limited-time in-game event announced on August 6, 2024, for the film’s 25th anniversary. The crossover added characters, the NSEA Protector, missions and event mechanics to the mobile game; it did not make Galaxy Quest part of Star Trek’s screen canon.
What the Galaxy Quest crossover added
Scopely and Paramount framed the event as a story in which Jason Nesmith and the crew of the NSEA Protector are thrown into the Star Trek Fleet Command universe. Their attempt to return home with the Omega 13 sends them back in time, where they encounter James T. Kirk. The announcement described the crossover as a meeting of the two fictional worlds inside the game, not a change to either franchise’s screen continuity. Scopely’s August 6, 2024 announcement introduced the collaboration.
Update 69 translated that premise into three kinds of content:
- Story and characters: Galaxy Quest missions and four officers—Jason Nesmith (Tim Allen), Gwen DeMarco (Sigourney Weaver), Laliari (Missi Pyle) and Alexander Dane (Alan Rickman).
- Gameplay: The NSEA Protector, Galaxy Quest-themed hostiles, a server-wide invasion involving Sarris and the Klingons, and an expansion to the Mirror Universe.
- Event rewards: Officer shards, ship blueprints, Mirror Dust, Syndicate XP and building resources, alongside a Galaxy Quest Battle Pass and promotional codes.
The Update 69 notes describe the ship as an explorer with an Omega 13 ability. That ability could let a ship survive a battle that would otherwise destroy it; the notes say it could apply to the player or other players and be improved through research and the Sarris refit.

The current Google Play listing describes Star Trek Fleet Command as an online strategy game with alliances, ships, officer upgrades, missions and ongoing updates; it reports an app update on October 1, 2026. That listing does not say whether the 2024 crossover content has returned or remains obtainable. Google Play’s current listing is useful for the game’s present-day context, not as confirmation of event availability.

Why the crossover was more than a retelling
The game’s narrative team said it wanted to transform the premise rather than simply repeat the film. The writers asked what would happen if the Galaxy Quest crew entered a universe with different power dynamics and more powerful heroes. In the team’s account, this was the first crossover in Star Trek Fleet Command history. The narrative team’s account also describes Galaxy Quest as “A parody of Trek, but not one written with spite or ill intentions”—the writers’ characterization of the film.
That approach makes the crossover a natural fit for a game built around ships, officers and missions, while keeping its scope clear: it is a playful in-game encounter, not an announcement about film or television canon. StarTrek.com describes Fleet Command as a free-to-play mobile strategy MMO featuring ships, officers and a Kelvin Timeline story. StarTrek.com’s game overview provides that broader franchise context.

- The single-player campaign is now called Metaverse, which comes from the term metagame, meaning game within a game.
- Each campaign has about 60 individual missions that feature greater context, flexibility, and impact on the fate of your empire.
- Metaverse is available for online play. There are two new races in addition to the original six: the savage Mirak Star League and the Interstellar Concordium, which aims to enforce peace at any cost.
- New ships are available, including escort vessels, patrol craft, and fighters, bringing the total variants to more than 1,000.
- A new fleet interface makes for easy target monitoring and allows fleets to operate as a single unit or for individual ships to move autonomously.
What the announcement does—and does not—establish
The event was announced by Scopely and Paramount on August 6, 2024, in connection with Galaxy Quest’s 25th anniversary. Scopely executive Conor Crowley said the collaboration would bring players something new while paying homage to Star Trek fandom and the spirit of both franchises. Paramount executive Doug Rosen described it as a blend of humor and adventure.
The published material establishes a digital crossover event and its 2024 features. It does not establish that the characters or ship entered screen canon, that the event is currently playable, or that a specific physical product was made for the crossover.
