What Grecko said about the marriage
On 16 June 2021, shortly before Edelsten’s funeral, PerthNow reported that Grecko had posted an Instagram Story saying: “For people who have asked. No, me and Geoffrey were still married when he passed away, no divorce, widowed.” PerthNow attributed the statement to Grecko’s post; it did not establish her legal status through a court record.

What the public timeline shows
- 11 June 2015: Grecko and Edelsten married in Melbourne, according to The New Daily.
- July 2015: Grecko posted “No longer Mrs. Edelsten,” then shared a video in which she put her ring back on. The New Daily reported uncertainty at the time about whether the apparent breakup was final. PerthNow later described the couple as having split in 2015.
- 9 February 2017: The West Australian reported that Edelsten had taken out a court order against Grecko and described the pair as estranged. That report does not establish that they divorced. The West Australian’s account is not a divorce judgment.
- June 2021: Grecko made the Instagram statement reported by PerthNow. In a separate interview with A Current Affair after Edelsten’s death, she said she would not contest his estate.
Why the claim is not the same as legal confirmation
A public announcement of separation, estrangement, or a changed relationship does not itself show whether a divorce judgment was issued. The available reports establish the wedding and later public relationship events, but do not provide a case-specific divorce decree or an official statement confirming the couple’s legal status when Edelsten died.
The New York County Clerk’s matrimonial-records guidance explains how certain divorce actions and judgments filed in that county may be documented. It does not show that Grecko and Edelsten had a case there, nor can it establish whether records exist in another jurisdiction. Without a relevant official record or an on-record statement from an appropriate authority or legal representative, the legal question remains unresolved by these reports.

What Grecko said about the estate
A Current Affair reported that Grecko said she would not contest Edelsten’s estate. The segment also quoted lawyer Tracey Ryan describing an executor’s application and a six-month family-provision period. That was a general explanation in the interview; the report does not establish what Edelsten’s will provided, whether anyone made a claim, or what a court decided. Grecko also joked about inheriting debt rather than money: “It’s like comedy, when people talk about me inheriting money. I’m like, ‘no. More like I’m inheriting millions of dollars of debt’,” she said.
