Fyre Festival 2 was postponed in April 2025 before its planned May 30–June 2 event in Mexico. Ticket holders were told they had been refunded, and organizers said they were seeking a new location—but neither a replacement date nor venue was announced in the updates reported at the time. A week later, Billy McFarland said he planned to sell the Fyre Festival brand. The available dated reports do not establish what, if anything, changed after April 2025.
Why was Fyre Festival 2 postponed?
The event had been promoted for Mexico from May 30 through June 2, 2025. On April 16, organizers told ticket holders the event was postponed. Variety reported that advertised ticket prices at the time started at $1,400; that was a reported starting price for the planned 2025 event, not a current ticket offer. Variety’s April 17 report covered the postponement and ticket-holder message.
In a separate April 16 update, organizers said Fyre Festival 2 would no longer take place in Playa del Carmen and that they were vetting other locations. Their statement discussed Mexican government support and permits, but those explanations were the organizers’ account, not independently established facts. The update said a host destination would be announced later; it did not name a new location or date. The organizer update reproduced in a PDF also said retained tickets would be honored at a new location and refunds were available on request.
Were Fyre Festival 2 tickets refunded?
On April 16, ticket holders received a message saying, “The event has been postponed and a new date will be announced. We have issued you a refund.” It added that they could repurchase if a later date worked for their schedule. Variety reproduced the message in its April 17, 2025 report.

The ticket-holder message said refunds had been issued. Separately, the organizers’ location update offered refunds on request and said tickets kept by holders would be honored at a new location. These statements describe the terms communicated at the time; the available reports do not establish the status of any individual payment or later ticket policy. Ticket holders should check their original purchase and payment records and contact the seller or payment provider if a promised refund did not arrive.
Is Fyre Festival 2 still happening?
The public statements changed over the course of April 2025. On April 17, The Washington Post reported that a spokesperson said the event would not start in Playa del Carmen on May 30, while also saying, “FYRE Festival 2 is still on.” That statement supplied no replacement date or location. The Washington Post’s report records that position.

On April 23, McFarland announced that he planned to sell the Fyre Festival brand and step back so another team could operate it. His announcement said the sale would include the brand’s trademarks, intellectual property, digital assets, media reach, and cultural capital. It described an intention to sell, not a completed transaction. The April 23 special announcement contains his statement; the Los Angeles Times report published April 24 described the festival as indefinitely postponed and without a host location.
Those dated statements establish the postponement, the search for another location, and McFarland’s stated plan to sell the brand. They do not establish a replacement date, a new venue, a completed sale, or whether an official update appeared after April 2025. The available information therefore does not support a definitive claim about the event’s present-day status.

Why the original Fyre Festival remains relevant
The 2017 Fyre Festival in the Bahamas is part of the sequel’s context, but the original case should not be treated as proof of any particular claim about Fyre Festival 2. In a June 12, 2018 announcement, the U.S. Department of Justice said McFarland pleaded guilty to defrauding investors and a ticket vendor. The DOJ reported more than $26 million in investor fraud and described fabricated claims about talent bookings and event-cancellation insurance. The DOJ announcement concerns the original fraud case; its investor-fraud figure is not a total for ticket buyers.
