Funimation is not experiencing a temporary outage. Its website and apps permanently closed on April 2, 2024, when the service was consolidated into Crunchyroll. An “unable to connect” message, failed sign-in, redirect, or nonworking old TV or console app is therefore expected and cannot be fixed by refreshing, changing DNS, reinstalling Funimation, or restarting your router. Why Funimation shows an “unable to connect” error
The former Funimation streaming service and its backend authentication systems are retired. Old bookmarks may redirect, while mobile, smart-TV, and console apps may fail to authenticate because there is no longer a live Funimation service behind them.
Third-party outage pages can still show historical reports or a “Funimation down” page for the retired domain. Those reports do not mean Funimation remains an operating platform; the official Crunchyroll shutdown notice is the authoritative explanation.
Do not spend time trying to revive Funimation with a VPN, DNS change, cache-clearing routine, router reboot, or another installation of the old app.

What to use instead: Crunchyroll
- Open the official Crunchyroll website or install its current app from your device’s official app store.
- Try the email address and password formerly used for Funimation. Access is account- and migration-state-dependent, so an old login is not guaranteed to work indefinitely or to display the account unchanged.
- Check Account, membership, and billing details before starting a new subscription.
- Search for the anime you want. Crunchyroll says most of the Funimation catalog was migrated, but title, dubbed-version, and regional availability can differ.
- Contact Crunchyroll Support if the account, membership, or billing information is wrong.
What transferred—and what did not

Subscriptions, renewals, and unexpected charges
A charge labeled Funimation may be a transferred membership, a renewal through Google Play, Roku, Amazon, or another payment platform, or an erroneous charge. Do not dispute every charge before identifying its source.
- Save a screenshot showing the charge date, amount, and merchant name.
- Gather the account email, last four card digits, and billing ZIP or postal code.
- Check subscriptions directly in the payment platform that originally billed you.
- Contact Crunchyroll Support and ask it to review the billing history, stop any remaining Funimation-linked billing, and explain whether a refund is available.
Existing subscribers should confirm whether their membership already transferred before buying Crunchyroll Premium a second time. For U.S. customers, the official pricing page observed for 2026 lists Fan at $9.99 per month, Mega Fan at $13.99, and Ultimate Fan at $17.99; taxes, promotions, region, and app-store billing can change the amount. If Crunchyroll itself will not load
This is a separate, current-service problem. Crunchyroll’s status history can show platform-wide incidents; it reported all listed services running at the research check, but a normal status page does not rule out a local, regional, device, or account fault.
- Refresh the browser, or fully close and reopen the Crunchyroll app.
- Clear browser cache and cookies. On mobile, clear the app cache where the operating system provides that control.
- Try another supported browser or device.
- Install the current Crunchyroll app from the official app store rather than an old Funimation app.
- Restart the modem or router and test a different network, such as mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, script blockers, and browser extensions.
- Check whether regional restrictions or a VPN are affecting availability.
- Before contacting support, record your country, device, operating-system version, browser or app version, exact error text, and any error code.
Use Crunchyroll’s guidance for loading failures and buffering or connectivity issues. These steps can help with Crunchyroll; they cannot restore Funimation.

Common cases that look like an outage
An old smart-TV or console app fails
Reinstalling Funimation will not restore its service. Replace it with the Crunchyroll app if your device supports Crunchyroll, or use a supported browser or newer device.
A Funimation link redirects
A redirect to Crunchyroll is consistent with the platform transition, not evidence of a short-term server incident.

A show is missing
One absent title does not prove Crunchyroll is down. It may not have migrated, may have different licensing, or may be unavailable in your region.
A password reset does not work
Try Crunchyroll’s account-recovery flow. Do not assume that historical Funimation watch data or account records will return after a successful reset.

What this means for former Funimation users
There is no Funimation outage to wait out and no setting that will bring the retired service back online. The practical path is to use Crunchyroll, verify your membership and billing, search for each title you need, and contact its support team about account or charge-specific problems.
