If Fubo keeps buffering, first work out whether the problem is one channel, one device, your home connection, or Fubo itself. Check Fubo’s status page, then try the fixes below in order. If a live event is underway, switching to another device or connection can get you watching sooner while you diagnose the original setup.
First, identify what is buffering
Notice the pattern before changing settings. It can point you toward the cause and spare you fixes that do not apply.
- One channel or event: It may be a temporary stream or channel-feed problem. Try another channel, then return to the original.
- Every channel on one device: Focus on that device’s Fubo app, software, performance, or Wi-Fi signal.
- Every device on your home network: Check Fubo’s status, your internet connection, and your router or modem.
- Fubo and other streaming services: A broader network problem is more likely than a Fubo-only issue.
- Only during busy events or while other people are online: Household congestion or an inconsistent connection may be contributing.
These are diagnostic clues, not guarantees. Fubo lists connection-speed drops, congestion from other devices, app or device problems, outages, and VPN or proxy use among possible causes. Its troubleshooting guidance is a useful starting point.
1. Check Fubo’s status and refresh the channel
Visit Fubo’s status page before changing your network. If there is no reported issue, refresh the stream: change to another live channel, wait for it to load, then return to the event or channel that stalled. Fubo recommends this step for playback problems; it can clear a temporary interruption without restarting everything.

2. Fully close and reopen Fubo
Pressing Home may leave an app suspended in the background rather than closing it. Exit the stream, use your device’s recent-apps or app-management screen to close Fubo completely, then reopen it and retry the channel. The control varies across Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, smart TVs, game consoles, phones, tablets, and browsers, so use the device’s own app-closing controls rather than relying on a universal remote shortcut.
3. Sign out, restart the device, and sign back in
If Fubo opens but playback seems stuck, refresh the account session and device state:
- In Fubo, open Account, My Profile, or the current profile name.
- Select Sign Out.
- Restart the TV, streaming device, phone, tablet, or computer.
- Open Fubo, sign in again, and test playback.
Labels differ by platform. Try this before deleting the app; a sign-out and restart may be enough.

4. Check sustained speed and reduce competing traffic
Fubo’s stated continuous connection-speed targets are per active stream. They are reference points, not a promise that playback will be smooth: Wi-Fi interference, congestion, packet loss, device limits, and speed fluctuations can still disrupt a stream.

Fubo recommends testing with Fast.com. When possible, run the test on the same device and in the same spot where you watch, while the problem is happening. A high result at an idle time does not rule out brief drops during a live event. Fubo gives the example that three simultaneous 720p streams need at least 21 Mbps of constant speed, before other household internet use is counted. Gaming, video calls, downloads, cloud backups, and other streams add demand. Fubo also notes that playback quality depends on factors such as available bandwidth, location, content format, and device (Fubo terms).
- Pause large downloads and cloud backups; stop streams no one is watching.
- Move the TV or streaming device closer to the router if it uses Wi-Fi.
- If supported and nearby, try 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi; Ethernet is another useful test.
5. Restart the modem and router
A power cycle may clear a temporary modem, router, or Wi-Fi state problem. It does not increase the maximum speed of your internet plan.

- Close Fubo.
- Unplug the router and, if it is a separate unit, the modem.
- Wait about one minute.
- If the devices are separate, reconnect the modem first and wait for it to come back online.
- Reconnect or restart the router and wait for Wi-Fi to return.
- Reopen Fubo and test the stream.
Do not factory-reset your TV, streaming device, or router as an early troubleshooting step; that erases settings and sign-ins. If the connection keeps failing, contact your internet provider or equipment manufacturer rather than assuming another reboot will solve a recurring fault.
6. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet or another connection
When practical, connect the same device to the router with Ethernet and retry Fubo. A wired connection can avoid weak or congested Wi-Fi, though results still depend on the whole network path. Fubo also recommends trying Ethernet when available in its buffering guidance.
You can also test Fubo on another device or, briefly, over cellular data. If cellular works while home Wi-Fi does not, the comparison points toward the home network or Wi-Fi rather than proving a permanent mobile-data fix. Cellular service can have its own limits, weak signal, and congestion. If another streaming service also struggles on your home network, investigate the connection with your ISP.

7. Lower video quality, then isolate the app or device
Fubo adjusts quality automatically in many cases. On some platforms, lowering it manually can help when a connection cannot sustain the selected quality. If playback becomes stable at a lower setting, that suggests a throughput or consistency problem, but does not by itself establish that your ISP is at fault.
Where manual video-quality controls are available
- TV devices: Press Up on the remote to open player controls, scroll right to Settings, choose Video Quality, and select a lower setting. Watch for several minutes before lowering it again.
- Desktop or laptop browser: Move the cursor over the player, select the settings cog at the lower right, then choose a lower Video Quality.
- Android phone or tablet: Tap the video to show controls, tap Video Quality, and choose a lower setting.
Fubo says manual quality selection is unavailable on iPhone and iPad, which adjust automatically. It also lists some TV devices without this feature, including Apple TV, Hisense VIDAA TV, LG TV, Roku, Samsung Smart TV, Vizio TV, Xbox One, and Xumo. Check Fubo’s video-quality instructions for current platform details.
Reinstall or try another supported device
If app restarts and the other steps have not helped, update the app and device software if updates are available. Fubo recommends uninstalling and reinstalling the app as a later troubleshooting step, but tells Samsung Smart TV users to skip reinstalling and continue with other options. You can also test on another device listed in Fubo’s supported-device directory, since compatibility and app availability can change.

If Fubo works on another device, focus on the original device, its app, or its connection. If all your devices and channels fail, shift attention to service status, the home network, or your account. Buying a new streaming device is only a reasonable next step if testing points to the old device as the bottleneck; it will not resolve a service outage or unstable internet connection.
VPNs, error messages, and other cases
Fubo says VPNs and proxy devices can prevent the app from loading correctly or trigger an error. Disable a VPN or proxy and retry rather than using one as a playback workaround. If Fubo displays a message about too many devices or streams, follow the account or plan support path: a simultaneous-stream limit is different from buffering caused by slow or inconsistent data delivery. Check Fubo’s current plans or plan comparison for applicable limits.
When to contact Fubo or your internet provider
Contact Fubo through its support guidance if playback remains broken after the basic tests, especially if a specific channel or event fails for an extended period, an error appears, or the problem persists on another network. Contact your ISP if multiple services and devices show ongoing connection trouble.

- Device model and operating system, plus whether you use the Fubo app or a browser.
- Channel or event, and when the issue began, including your time zone.
- Whether other Fubo channels, devices, or streaming services work.
- A speed-test result taken near the affected device, and whether it was on Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
- Whether a VPN or proxy was active.
