Christie Blizzard, founder of The Production Academy in Osborne Park, produced a youth-cast production of Frozen Jr that played at Newman College’s Marist Auditorium in Churchlands from June 29 to July 6, 2024. The eight-show school-holiday run has ended; the production is a past Perth theatre event, not a current ticket listing.
Who brought Frozen Jr to Perth?
PerthNow’s June 27, 2024 feature identified Blizzard as the founder of The Production Academy, a musical-theatre and youth-drama studio in Osborne Park, and the producer of the Perth production. Blizzard said she had wanted to stage a musical with the studio and Perth youth for some time, and that Frozen was her first choice after the larger musical toured Perth in 2023. What was the production and who was involved?
PerthNow described Frozen Jr as an underage adaptation of Frozen performed by an all-youth cast. The report does not detail the adaptation’s script changes, so it is best understood here as the youth version featured in this specific production rather than as a full account of how the licensed show differs from the larger musical.
The cast ranged in age from six to 18, according to PerthNow. Experienced director Dixie Farinosi was also named as part of the production team. The feature presented the show as an opportunity for younger performers to stage a major musical and for younger audience members to engage with it; it also mentioned opportunities for fans to mingle with performers.

#1 Best Overall
- Disney's 2013 Oscar-winning film comes to Broadway, a full-length stage work told in two acts-the first and only incarnation of the tale that expands upon and deepens its indelible plot and themes through new songs and story material from the film's creators, including Kristen Anderson-Lopez (Up Here, Winnie the Pooh, In Transit), EGOT-winner Robert Lopez (Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon, Up Here), and Jennifer Lee (Zootopia, Wreck-It Ralph)
How did the production come together?
Blizzard told PerthNow that bringing the adaptation to the studio involved an application and licensing process with Music Theatre International (MTI). She described it as “a bit of an application process” and said, “You can’t just walk off the street and say, ‘That’s what I want!’” The article does not give the license terms or reproduce an MTI document, so those details should not be inferred from the account.
According to the feature, casting and production were cleared to begin in October, followed by rehearsals across two school terms. Meaghan Deane, whose three children were in the cast, told PerthNow: “They keep telling me just how amazing the show is going to be!”
