Spoilers for From Season 3, Episode 5, “The Light of Day.” Dale dies after a Faraway Tree sends him into the concrete wall of the town’s swimming pool. The episode also leaves Randall alive after the monsters’ attack, puts Tabitha under pressure to explain her return, and brings Victor and Henry face to face again.
What happens to Dale?
Dale enters the bottle tree hoping its Faraway Tree will take him home so he can get help. Tabitha and Jade warn him that no one can predict where it will send him, but he goes in anyway. The tree deposits him inside the concrete of the town’s swimming pool, trapping him in the wall.

Boyd and the others find Dale there. He is still alive, but Boyd cannot bring himself to shoot him to end his suffering. Dale dies before Boyd does so.
His death makes the danger of using the tree unmistakable: its destination cannot be assumed or controlled. The episode establishes what happens to Dale, not that every journey through a Faraway Tree ends the same way.

Randall survives the monsters’ attack
The monsters leave Randall badly injured but alive. He blames Boyd for abandoning him. Boyd suspects the monsters deliberately spared Randall to keep the townspeople frightened and to stop them from believing daylight makes them safe.
Tabitha faces the town’s anger
Residents challenge Tabitha over her return from the outside world. They want to know why she did not bring help, and many see her journey as a missed chance to get everyone out. Overwhelmed by the confrontation, she leaves the meeting.

Later, she agrees to examine the bottle tree with Jade but tells Jim she will not enter it herself. The distinction matters: she is willing to investigate the tree, not to repeat Dale’s gamble.
Victor and Henry finally reunite
Victor initially avoids seeing Henry. He fears that his father expects him to be the child he remembers and that Victor’s own memories of his life before Fromville may not feel real. When they do meet, they embrace. Victor tells Henry he did not know how to get home.

Fatima worries about changes in her pregnancy
Fatima tells Ellis she has been craving rotten vegetables and is afraid something may be wrong with her pregnancy. The episode presents these as her symptoms and fears; it does not confirm a diagnosis or explain their cause.
Julie and Elgin find a camera
Julie and Elgin spend time together and talk about the distressing experiences they carry. In the basement, they find a Polaroid camera with film, another small discovery whose significance is not yet clear.

The bottle-tree numbers remain unexplained
Jade and Tabitha inspect papers from the bottle tree bearing four-digit numbers. The number 2659 complicates Jade’s idea that the figures might be dates. The episode offers a clue, not a solution to what the numbers mean.
Boyd’s authority takes another hit
The dispute over Tabitha’s return and the danger of the tree add to the pressure on Boyd. He loses his temper with Acosta during the conflict. Later, Bakta tells him she will support him next time.

Dale chooses immediate action over further investigation: he wants to use the tree to get home and bring help. Tabitha and Jade’s warning is that the destination is uncertain, and his fate shows the cost of treating that uncertainty as a manageable risk. The episode does not show that studying the bottles would have revealed where the tree would send him; it does show that entering without knowing is not a reliable escape plan.
